Chrysler to retire the "Hemi" name again
That is not a 426 in the model A.
You said the only real Hemi was the 426, I disagree.
Many hot rods and drag cars had 331's and 354's.
The 392 for example powered many of the FED's.
One of the most famous dragsters of all time, the Greer Black car, ran a blown 392.
So the 426 is not the only "real" Hemi.
Another issue with Hemi talk is 426 was not applied to a Hemi first, it was a Wedge motor.
392 is important enough in the history of the hemi that they are making it the displacement of one of the new motors, sorta like when the new SRT8 hemi came out they wanted to meet the hp of the old 426.

Well I guess you have your opinion I have mine
Hey, I was just messing with ya a bit.
You discounted the 392 and you continue to hint that it is not a "real" hemi.
The 392 propelled one of the most famous (and considered by many people the most beautiful looking) dragsters ever.
I was just commenting on your comment.
The 426 is not the only real hemi and the dragster I posted is freaking awesome.
The dragster is a champion and does car shows now too.
That being said if you think that car is a "banana" and ugly you are in the minority.

If has been on countless t-shirts and been made in to several high end die casts so calling it ugly is kinda odd.
But hey, it is your opinion.

Got here a little late for hysteria control, but did anyone catch that the Hemi name is being retired on the 5.7 V8?
Is the 5.7 V8 a real hemi compared with the larger 6.1?
Hemi will continue on the performance Dodges (which means the SRTs).
The V8 in your standard issue 300, Charger, and others won't be called "Hemi" because Chrysler wants to emphasize the fuel economy aspects of this engine (which is better than a few imports with V6s).
Sales of the highly profitable 5.7 took a hit when fuel prices skyrocketed despite the relatively good fuel economy of the "Hemi 2". They haven't exactly returned since.
It's a good marketing move-experiment.
Chrysler is the only US automaker to publically commit the availability of the V8 engine in a regular production, volume car (Mustang and Camaros are sports coupes, both Cadillac and Lincoln are phasing out V8s outside of special limited models).
That means the V8 will be competing with V6s.
Taking the Hemi name out of the equasion (and limiting it to truly performance models) both increases the value of the name and enables the V8 to compete with other sedans that have V6s.... and FWD.
