'Hemi' is marketing, yes. Very successful marketing at that. And the reason it's dumb is because they're walking away from marketing gold.

Anyone else wonder when or if the whole green movement is going to get worn out? We see corporations make mind-boggling marketing decisions like this in the name of appearing "green" - I just wonder when it gets tiresome. I think I've already passed that point.

prepare to be annoyed! The odds are that GM will eventually use the LS1 rpo for an engine again at some point. LS3, LS4, LS7, L99, LT1 and it turns out that even L98 have been used more than once. I'm sure there are plenty more to add to that list too.

Well, how about the LS6 from the 2001-2004 Corvette Z06?

Had nothing to do with the origal 454 big block LS6.

Could make an arguement for the Optispark LT1 vs the original LT-1 of 1970 as well, though at least the engines were both still small blocks.

The S-10 offered an offroad package called ZR2... heck it even floated over to the stinking Tracker.

ZR2 is a legendary Corvette RPO code from 1971. There were a handful built. Basically big block ZR1's.

My father-in-law has a Ram. The first thing people ask is "Does that have a Hemi?" I've never seen engine reconition like that. When non car people know what it is, that great marketing.

But it was slightly more similar than the 151 CI Iron Duke LS6!

GM definitely doesn't see engine codes as being sacred but they've never outwardly branded or marketed an engine by name either (like "Hemi").

The original big block was LS-6, with a hyphen. Actually, I'm pretty sure that all of the old versions of supposedly reused engine codes had hyphens.

The only place I can think of when a hyphen was used was the original LT-1. And that was only on the hood sticker... if you look at tank stickers, etc, there is no hyphen, or anywhere else that I am aware of, including the 70's LS6, though I could be wrong... still, either-way, kinda ticky-tacky.

I was leaving the Casino the other day and one of the security guards at the parking lot entrance/exit looked over at me while I was waiting for traffic to clear and said: "That thing got a HEMI in it?!"

I was like no dumbass, it's a Chevrolet. Actually just said it had an LS1 and got a confused look.

Granted my car sounds like it's going to kick your *** at idle, but I thought it was funny.
