Chrysler actually had some GOOD news...

Just finished watching my dealer webcast...interesting facts...

1) Chrysler was down 41-42% in January, versus Ford at 48% IIRC and GM over 50% Toyota was down 37%.

2) Here's where it gets interesting...Chrysler sold more cars on a retail basis than Ford did last month!!! Chrysler's RETAIL sales were down 21%, versus 45% for Ford and 48% for GM (you'll notice, I pay a lot more attention to retail share, because as a dealer its all I care about )

3) Chrysler has sold more cars than Ford at retail only 2 months prior, in its history.

4) Chrysler's retail share increased from 9.6% to 11.0%, year-over-year.

Interesting stuff...as for total market share??

Chrysler = 11.9% (12.5% last January)
Ford = 13.6% (15.5% last January)
GM = 17.9% (22.4% last January)...that number is painful

Japanese = an increase to 39.4% from 36.7%
Koreans = here was the amazing part...an increase from 4.4% to 7.5%!! Dare I say the "Hyundai Advantage" is working??????

I'm far from being a Chrysler nuthugger here...the situation is still awful. But I had a feeling Chrysler would do better-than-average this month...my dealership had the best month its had since last August!!!

Chrysler had an increase in market share probably because the other 2 dropped so much.
And I'm sure the Employee ++ had something to do with that.

Without a doubt, EP + 0%/48 mos = better sales. Hell, even my own father-in-law, who had been on the fence for eons, bought a new Grand Cherokee from me last month. But to me, with all of the supposed bad press circling around Chrysler, I'm surprised they outsold Ford even WITH all those rebates. Especially seeing as how Ford is currently the chosen one of the Big 3...and rightfully so.

We kept the EP this month, but 0% is only for 36...2.9 = 48. That will get Chrysler some extra cash, but undoubtedly lower sales Unless, things start turning around...

Jason, just curious but do you happen to know what the breakdown was between Jeep and the rest of Chrysler? IMHO, Jeep currently has more interesting models available, aside from Dodge trucks of course.

Don't have the February figures yet, but in January Jeep sold 16,834, Chrysler 10,685, Dodge sold 34,638.

Outside of the Jeep Wrangler (actually up 4% over last year, at 6,362), only the Jeep Liberty (3,342) outsold the Charger (4,025) while Grand Cherokee (3,124) barely outsold the Dodge Challenger (another Chrysler vehicle whose sales are up..2% over December at 2,757).

I'd expect much the same for February.

I said this a month ago.... I wouldn't even begin to count Chrysler out yet till the fat lay sings.

Given Chrysler's rebound history & the fact that even now they seem to be putting together a pretty radical recovery, I think the ole lady is just as likely to be run over by Mopar as to belt out a tune signalling it's end.
