Choose your ideal new Camaro

I think we are pretty much set on that the car should be about 72.0"-74.0" wide, about 50.0"-52.0" high, and have a 108"-110 wheelbase. It all makes sense for the kind of car it is and what it's need are, but the length is definetly the most debated thing about it's dimensions so far. So pick which is your ideal for the 5th Gen Camaro in these times. Remember what the car is and what it's purpose is when voting.

(Multiple choices and who voted is on)

I don't care how long it is, as long as they utilize the space right. I'd like it to be 189-192

There's a nice answer.

I don't think anyone can peg it down to a 2 inch margin and say "This is it! Nothing More! Nothing Less! Or GM can screw themselves and I won't buy!"

Re: Choose your ideal new Camaro

I actually voted for the 190" just to tick off all the baby-camaro cheerleaders

Actually I think 187-188 is ideal for keeping it relatively short but still within what a Camaro should be.

I think the perfect Camaro should be the size and weight of a fox body Mustang. I know with the all the new technology the weight will be the biggest issue; 3400lbs should be the max target weight.

Re: Choose your ideal new Camaro

I didn't pick the shortest, but I feel that once you package a V8, six speed, IRS, and 2+2 seating........it should be as small as posiible, with the largest wheelbase possible.

My ideal is 183-184" overall length and 110-113" wheelbase.

I believe both of these statements are unrealistic. Lets come back down to earth a bit. Even if the car is 184" its not going to be 3400lbs, unless you want it to cost $40,000.

And 170's? Not if you want a back seat!

Re: Choose your ideal new Camaro

And please remember fox bodied Mustangs were relatively light because they had small brakes, cheap front suspensions, cheap rear suspensions, poor chassis rigidity (not 3rd gen bad, but still bad), cheap doors and hinges and no airbags (drivers side airbag later), no abs equipment, no door impact beams, didn't have to comply with federal a-pillar and head impact regs, etc. etc. etc.

Ever wonder why the SN95s were so dang heavy despite being about the same size as the Fox? THink of all the added "stuff" over the years.

I don't see how the length wouldn't be possible. To get the weight down that would be a little hard but possible. You don't think a fully loaded Camaro will end up costing close to $40,000? I think it will. Look at what they are asking for a GTO. Your only choice is automatic or manual. If a lot of the GTO's equipment was optional instead of being standard i'm sure it would probably cost a couple thousand more. Also think of the average price on the competition: G35 coupe(low-mid 30's), 350z(mid20's-mid30's), Mustang (est low 20's for a V6 -low 40's for an SVT).

I think if done right a 40k Camaro will sell well.

I posted this in the other thread, but it applies a bit here too, so:

A G35 6-speed weighs in at 3,512 pounds (182.2" length)... and that is with a 6 cylinder instead of an 8 cylinder...

Something to think about for everyone thinking 3400 is a must-do thing...
