Well my vote is not even a drop in the bucket since I cannot afford a new car at the moment, but since you asked,

Yeah I like the look of some 4th gens too, primarily the first half of the camaro 4th gen (93 - 97 or 98, whenever) and the 2nd half of the firebird 4th gen (98 - 02). Yeah I can live with those 2 subsections of the 4th gen as far as looks, but just barely. They still have thw whale-a$$ rear quarters and oversized bloated body though. Aside from looks, I can't stand their ergonimics at all in the interior. That's one reason (out of many reasons) why I said that a lot of 4th gen owners have their expectations lowered.. because they want the big & bad LS1 and many people just settle for any package it may come in, regardless of the package's functionality or layout.

As far as the SS, I've seen a good bit of video of it.. video, not just stills. Unfortunately it still strikes me as some kind of clownish joke. The curves are just totally misguided. The overall styling is just a disaster. On the other hand, I really like the SSR for what its purpose is, so go figure. We all have our opinions..

Since you asked what kinds of cars I like... first and foremost, thirdgen. secondly Firebird and Trans Am (camaro to a lesser extent). thirdly early thirdgen, like 82-84. So that narrows it down pretty well. And oddly enough, no I'm not one of those Knight Rider conversionists. I like the 82-84 cars 100% stock with no appearance mods whatsoever. I'm in a very tiny and slim minority on that. Other than that, I like pretty much any simplistic GM design before the 90s. I had a 78 Caprice Town Landau "notchback" Coupe not too long ago. 350, long sleek body, 2 doors.. totally unique body style you never ever see anymore even though they made plenty. The 4-doors are still dime-a-dozen, but unless your neighbor has a coupe, chances are you haven't seen one in years. That car was a totally sweet cruiser. The 77 - 79 B-Bodies, when they came out, they were so awesome to look at and drive especially with the optional F41 stiffer ride. I didn't appreciate the 80+ front & rear clip updates they made.. the 77-79 is the purest expression for that car even though it lasted until 1990 (the beltway sniper had a 90 4-door). I just felt a total sense of pride owning a car like those 77 - 79 coupes.. That's just an example. I can't think of a whole lot of 60s - 80s GM that I really dislike, except if it's FWD or if it's a Corvair, I'm apprehensive about those but they're worth a look and that's about it. I'd love to get my hands on a nice original Typhoon or Syclone eventually. I also had a real thing for the basic 2-wheel drive Jimmy / S-10 Blazers of the 80s, like when they first came out. A friend of mine has a 1990 Pontiac 6000 All-Wheel-Drive.. with a true rear differential and a true driveshaft, etc. totally unique looking car and very much ahead of its time as far as drivetrain innovations. does anyone even know that those existed? Doubt it. Another sort of "dreamcar" of mine is the 75 - 76 Coupe De Ville 2-door with the 500 V8. Again I see it as the purest most awesome representation of full size Caddies even though that generation lasted into the 1990s as well. I like them understated, not overdone, yet mean and capable in their own right. That's one way to put it I guess. I don't care if I ever win or lose a street race (I never race anyway), I care about mature yet lively bold style. That's how I see the early thirdgens. And being originally designed/conceived by hand is an extremely important attribute in my mind.. not designed by a just-graduated newbie apprentice with his faith totally on a friggin CAD system like so many of today's cars.

I'd give the SS concept a 6 out of 10. Okay but not outstanding.

PS: I'm with you on the early 3rds, kizz

What exactly is the difference in the ergonomics between the 3rd and 4th Gens? I especially like the '93-'96 cars which had the dash that sort of wrapped around the driver which put the emphasis on the most important person controlling the features on the car.

The windshield and roof aren't right in your face, the converter thing isn't as pronounced, the dash isn't rounded and you can see over it, the passenger dash doesn't come right out at you......

All I can think of right now.

How about being able to see the end of the hood?

How about not feeling like 50% of the interior space is wasted due to the design?

How about not being surrounded on all sides by smoothed-out rounded-off little trinkets, mostly useless eye-candy?

just a few more in addition to IZ28's.

I think it's been covered (on numerous occasions) that the 3rd Gen floorpan is a direct carryover to the 4th Gen.

If we're talking strictly interior ergonomics, I thought we were simply discussing materials, placement of controls, comfort of seats, etc.

I never feel cramped in my car (although I'm sure my back seat passengers have ). Again, the interior volume of a 4th Gen is virtually unchanged from the 3rd Gen.

how bout not being surrounded on all sides by smoothed-out rounded-off little trinkets, mostly useless eye-candy?
Ok you lost me there. What "trinkets"?

sounds like you like nothing but squarish old 80s cars...maybe you should consider a mustang...theyre rather square...no nice body movements...theyre just big blocks of car on wheels...much like what it sounds like you like...

personally i think the SS concept looks nice...

nope.. never did like the Mustang at all except the first-gens, and then only the fastbacks. I'm GM all the way with just a handful of exceptions. I'm not against rounded cars. I'm against UGLY cars.

I'm kind of in the middle when it comes to the SS. I don't like it, but then again, i don't hate it.
