Thumbs up Chevy SS Concept featured in new Motor Trend

Wow its been a while since a Chevy has made it to the front cover.
The SS Concept car looks awesome, this is just the shot in the arm that Chevy needs for its sedan line up.
Chevy build this car and make it the new ImpalaSS, but don't wait until 5 years down the road like so many other concepts because someone will beat you to it. Then get to work on the next Camaro!

Sorry, but a lot of you 4th gen followers have inadvertently and subconsciously had your expectations WAY lowered in the past decade! It seems like some people will accept anything! "What's this, a non-truck non-SUV? I'll take it." IMHO, the SS concept is butt-ugly and would never sell in high volume as currently shown. I'm talking strictly from a design viewpoint. The face of it is just an evolution of the pissed-off-fish-out-of-water late model Camaro, except this time it looks more like Snoopy from the cartoon. The rear end panel is like a bald clown showing his empty pockets and chuckling, saying "Whooops!". Just a totally bald shoe-shiner look. I'm all for Chevy front covers and all that kind of press, but as far as the SS, it doesn't take a lot of effort to see that it's lacking. Bob Lutz does things strictly by instinct. My personal instinct on the SS is that it's not meant for production unless they re-skin it into something more logical and thought out.

For one, I'm not sure what liking this car has to do with being a 4th gen owner, or how that translates into lower expectations. Second, I've seen the car in person and it looks good. Fish and circus clowns were hardly my impression. And I love how everyone seems to think GM just pulls these styling exercises off *****-nilly...needs to be "more logical and thought out"...Yeah, they became the biggest car maker in the world by just jumping in and doing things without thinking. Yep, and they're doing the same thing with the upcoming Corvette.

The MT article explains the styling, and it is more a combination of testing out different things from classic Chevys over the years, including a lot of hints into the look of the C6. Whether it could appear as a new Impala SS or see production at all may be in doubt, but it certainly looks better than the current Impala. If that's lowered expectations, fine--but let's not confuse that with the bitterness of certain third-gen owners.

We have nothing to be bitter about, and MANY owners of all cars dislike this thing. It was 1 of the lousiest looking concepts ever, right up there with the SSR. It is plain, bland, uninspiring, and weird looking. I think thats where the 4th Gen comment came from. Can't speak for him though.

Yeah, I don't see how likeing that car and being a 4th gen owner has anything to do with anything really. I love the car and think it looks great and I will just leave it at that.

Wow! Pretty tough on the car, aren't you?

I think it's a intresting direction, and most of the feedback on the car from those who've seen it is almost universally great, so it seems like a winner. My opinion on the Belair changed alot after seeing it in person, and my opinion of the Solstice has changed from just OK to really nice, so I guess I'll have to wait till next year to say for sure, but so far I like the car.

Having said that, I don't think it should be the new Impala as is. My tastes in car design is admittedly very conservative, but I see the the next Impala as a LS1 powered, rear drive Altima or Audi A3.

The SS design would make a good theme for a 2 door Camaro, Corvette, or even a Monte Carlo or Chevelle coupe. But as a sedan, though I like the design, I'd either go in a different direction, or tone it down... alot.

They should definately use the SS as a referencing tool for some of their future 'muscle' cars. That thing is absolutely gorgeous, but I just don't see it as being a production 4-door sedan. What kind of family needs 430 HP and something as outrageous looking as that?

Hmmm ... I like the look of my 4th gen. I'm way too lazy to do a search of your previous posts .... so have a frame of reference for your comments; what are some current cars you like the styling of?

Actually the pictures in Motor Trend make the SS look even hotter than the official GM pictures. If you're remotely interested in the concept and you haven't seen it in person, its worth checking out the article.
