Some of us here seem to have lowered our standards, and appear ready to accept just anything on a new Camaro...for example.....here are some quotes I seem to remember, (in no particular order).

*"I don't care how many squeaks and rattles it has, they don't bother me"

*"Build it off the S10 chassis"

*"The Bel Air would make a GREAT Camaro"

*"What do we need an IRS on the Camaro for?"

*"I don't care about fit and finish....I just want a Z/28 for $16K."

OK, who said the BEL AIR would make a great Camaro?

SOME people have low standards for a Camaro, but for the most part, people do have high standards for what the next Camaro should be on this board...

Think what you want about the SS concept...after all, while I liked the 3rd Gen Camaro I don't exactly see it as the end-all, be-all of automotive styling either. Concept or production no car is going to please everyone.

Well said! Hmm... owning a 4th-gen somehow makes its owner like ugly cars and have low expectations of styling ... I don't think I really want to go into that one any further...

As for the SS, I thought it looked great in Motor Trend. I was kind of back and forth on whether I liked it or not from the pictures that I had seen on here. A couple of things do still bug me about it though. The rear bulge around the back doors looks odd and overdone to me. Amazingly, the corporate chrome (it actually appeared to be brushed aluminum) bar didn't really bother me that much. It still would look better if it were body color IMO. Overall, I think that car has some potential. But hey my opinion doesn't count because I'm a 4th-gen owner...

Exactly. I'm usually able to let a LOT of stuff roll off of me, but that implication really irritates me which is why I chose to keep my mouth shut as well.

Of course your right. Owning a 4th gen has nothing to do with lowering your expectations.

But I do detect a dangerous lowering of the bar by some regarding a 5th gen Camaro. We should make it clear...in as unified a voice as possible.... that mediocrity will not be tolerated in a future Camaro.

The SS is an interesting exercise in Chevy styling themes. It's a nice concept. I just get nervous when people suggest it ought to be a Camaro.

Heck, I thought the SS Concept was one of the nicest looking concepts I've ever seen from GM. If they produced a car that looked like that, I'd buy it if I could afford it.

I'm just quietly sitting here biting my tounge as well... those kind of statements are the ones that tend to make me discount someones posts altogether...

I love it. The idea AND the execution. I think it's beautiful. Low-slung, swoopy, smooth, shapely. Something like that might keep me from buying a used M3 4-door. If they keep the curb weight below 3600 MAX. I wouldn't mind seeing a much shorter and much lighter 2-door Camaro version.

And most people on this forum hate the SS, and love the TALL slab-sided slab-FRONTED CTS V-series (or whatever they're calling it)?! I don't get it.

I agree completely. There are some people who would take anything as long as it said Camaro. It wasn't your post that irritated me. It's the constant 4th-gen bashing, by a few, that has simply gotten very old. The implication that 4th-gen owners have little or no taste on what a car should look like in another post just kind of sent me over the edge. Another feeling that I have picked up on , once again from a few, is that 4th-gen owners know nothing about f-bodies and their history. In other words, 4th gen owners are less of a true enthusiast. This is complete and utter crap. I realize that there are those who don't and have never cared for the 4th gen. That's fine, but those same people must come to grips with the fact that the 4th-gen did in fact have a strong fan base among enthusiasts. There were many people that liked them. I'll be the first one to tell you that the car wasn't perfect, as will just about everyone at GM. The 4th-gen was however a darn good car for what it was and the resources it had to work with. The constant carping and bashing on them is overplayed, counter-productive, and uncalled for IMO. The fact remains that the 4th-gen (along with the 3rd-gen) is gone....let it go...lets move on...

AMEN BROTHER MIKE! I agree though.. I have owned 3 camaros, a 68 Z28(sold), and I still currently have an 86 IrocZ and my 94Z, and to tell you the truth, I like my 4th gen the best... But I dont think thats because I have shtty taste... its just my personal opinion. Hell, all gens had their problems, squeaks and rattles, but in the end they were all great cars!
And about the 3rd gen people hating the 4th gen, when they first came out I thought they looked like a totally modern/futuristic version of a 3rd gen. I loved it!
but back on topic, I like the SS concept. Im single w/o children and only 22 so i dont have a need for a 4 door sports car, but if I did I would get it... make it 2 door and you got a winner.

Thumbs up

Picked up new MT.
SS looks great, but I can't shake the feeling that it should be a new Camaro on the cover. Especially since the Mustang graced last months cover.

The SS looks particularly sharp when viewed from the side.
