Bottom line is if it's a good car, it'll sell. Toyota hasn't done bad at all with nonsensical names like Corolla and Camry. I never thought Fusion was a very inspired name for Ford's midsize car either and yet it ain't doing too bad...

 

Yup, Fiesta isn't exactly an awesome name, but it is a great small car.

Why don't they just rename everything? More money that could be put to better use than renaming.

 

Thats Toyota..and they could name it the Toyota "I will die" and sheeple will still buy it.


First off Chevy has a huge amount of names laying in wait with huge name recognition. Personally I would of went with Cobalt with this one. Only reason is..Cobalt is the most recent small offering that people know a little better than Aveo in what it is supposed to be.

If you called this a Cobalt it would sell a lot better than a "Sonic".

Hell I would of gone with the normal Nova..and before anyone jumps at it. NO Nova does not mean no go in Spanish it is No va means no go. But saying No Va and Nova is tow different meanings. Nova would of been a lot better translation to this new car than Sonic.

And its not any better than saying hey look a new sonic..where..ohh I thought you meant the new fast food place not a car..

 

WOW doing some google searching I am not the only one just floored by this stupid name.

One thing that caught my eye I would rather call it the Chevy Orion. Just throwing it out there.

 

It's better than Yaris and Versa, two of it's main competitors.

 

For whatever reason, maybe because I am tired, I think it should be called the Chevy Goblin. I would love to tell people that I drive a Goblin...seriously.

 

SuperSonic might in fact be a better name for it than simply Sonic.

Well, that's purely speculative.

I think Chevy would have caught flak for calling it 'Nova' as well. Nova has been everything from a small 2 door with a V8 to a POS 5 door hatchback in the 80's. I don't think we'll ever see that name recycled again.

It would be interesting to have heard the other choices. Same goes for with the Cruze.

I agree. It may be a little juvenile, but it certainly grabs attention more than "Aveo"...
