Where's the sports car (or muscle car for that matter)? What kind of alternate universe is this, the Twilight Zone?!

Not everyplace outside the United States considers a V8 Muscle Car a sports car (as if we have an abundance of muscle cars today here in the US ).

To bring ya up to speed, affordable performance cars are small FWD cars with quad cams or turbos to most people today, except Mustangs. Corvettes, and Vipers and the soon to be introduced Ford GT are US made sports cars, but let me know how many people here can afford the latter 2.

Australia is the only country that currently has an active "muscle car" enviroment going on. That's why we are getting our next GTO from there.

If anyone's living in a "Twillight Zone" it's us here in the United States at the moment.

there's a lot of excellent badge engineering going on there.

i mean, I know GM owns Holden, Opel, Daewoo and Suzuki and I know they can do with those companies' products as they choose (in this case by using them to promote the American Chevrolet brand), but it still seems wrong to me for some reason. Is it really such a good thing for Chevy to be associating itself with the third world and third world quality products? I'm sure people in everywhere in the world know that when they buy a Honda, they get a Honda (or Toyota or whatever). But things are never that simple at GM.

and what's the deal with Buick in China? I kinda find it ironic that China, which is an inch away from the Korean automaker is getting their Daewoos as Buicks (US), we get them as Suzukis (Japan) and Europe gets the Daewoo (Korea). I think this speaks volumes about GM's brand values. They are totally inconsistant! It sort of implies that GM is spending their resources on juggling their car lineup from brand to brand trying to find the brand that will move the most of each particular car rather than concentrating on actually building cars that should be able to carry any brand in the world and still sell well. I know its a lofty goal, but its been said before and I believe it to be true that a good product sells itself.

I do like the "Chevy Montana"...

Is that Chevy Montana, a Holden Ute? It looks really close but I don't remember the Ute have those fenders, rear quarter panels, and black bumpers.

Most of those small cars are re-badged Opels. Notice the Chevy bowtie inside a circle.

...Also, is the Montana (see pic below) built off the Astra chassie? it doesn;t look like a re-done Ute. looks smaller.

Montana
Montana's built off the Opel Astra, not Holden's ute.

All of those cars except for the Vectra and Caprice look like Cavalier-quality rental fleet cars.

The Vectra looks so-so on the outside, but on the inside it looks pretty nice. Saab-like, really. I wouldn't be surprised to find out that it's sitting on the 9-3/New Malibu platform.

Also, is it just me or does the Mervia have LED-backlit guages kind of like you see on the 03+ Accord/TL, some Lexus models, etc?
