Car & Driver drive Falcon XR6 Turbo

http://www.caranddriver.com/article....rticle_id=8210

would of been nice if they got to drive a Falcon GT

I heard Ford sent over a Fairmont Ghia V8, FPV Falcon GT and a Fairlane G220 but I guess theres no chance of the magazines getting a hold of those.

The XR6 Turbo is very cool. I'd like to see a RWD turbo six here in NA.

Such a powerplant in a Zeta derived car would help me rekindle my feelings for a 5th gen Firebird.

Ford North America has been evaluating Falcons for at least a year & a half. Upper management, engineers, and a few designers have been passing a couple of Falcons around like a good book for some time.

Falcon (as is) is not coming to the US because unlike Holden's cars, the Falcon isn't configured for left hand drive. Ford's factory in Australia is also running at full capacity. Ford also doesn't export the Falcon beyond New Zealand & South Africa. Finally, Falcon is due for a new chassis shortly after Holden replaces their's.

Falcons seem to be generally more quiet, and more luxury car-like, next to Holden's sporting, performance feel.

I got to drive some of Holden's quicker rides when I was visiting Australia regularly, but my only seat time in Falcons was in taxis or driving a rental for a day, so maybe my view is a little tilted.

Won't the next falcon be riding on a version of DC2, mustang's chassis? Also how closely related are DC2 and Dew? These questions are for the ford fellas like ProudPony et al.

I think if you put 2 and 2 together with the buzz around lately, it should be fairly obvious what's in the future...

Did anyone else notice how undersized the tires looked on the Falcon? I guess all Aussie cars have small wheel wells, necessitated by carried over platforms.
