Their list doesn't really make a lot of sense to me. Either pick categories, or don't. They've got 3 lux / sport sedans, two regular family sedans (but for the Fusion, only the hybrid makes the list, so is that a separate category?), two sports cars (Miata, Boxster / Cayman, OK so three cars), etc.
Automobile breaks things down by category for their "All Stars" list, and they name their pick along with a few notables / runners-up for a given category.
Car and Driver's list is a goofy hodgepodge. The Vette's interior may not be as pretty as the Cayman's, but neither does the Cayman's performance measure up to the Vette's. The Fit may be the best of the Fit / Aveo / other dinky cars class, but who the fock cares? If you are picking the 10 best overall vehicles, especially for an enthusiast magazine, cars like those shouldn't even be in serious consideration.
Not that any of the vehicles they've chosen are bad vehicles.
As for the Vette, I'd word it more like this:
Corvette Interior = Outdated / could use a freshening
Corvette Everything Else = world class / world beating (if we include the ZR1 / Z06).

It's more than the interior that need work to be one of the "best cars". Don't get me wrong, I love the Corvette. For the money, it'll beat the pants off of just about anything in the world in any trim level. But it didn't make the list because the C6 has been around for 6 MY's and the only real improvements it has made since its debut were to the things it was already the best at... it's drivetrain. It's added a new engine for the base model, added a Z06 and a ZR1 since 2004 when they came out. They already beat everyone down with the LS2, but opted for the LS3 a couple years later. They already dropped the hammer with the Z06 but built the ZR1. Not that I'm not all for it, I love it!!! But they've made no refinements on interior. Your battery will still die if you leave the car garaged for a couple weeks without the trickle charger hooked up, causing you to have to climb awkwardly through your hatch. Not many people seem to like the standard runflat tires one bit. Competitors are offering options that GM won't offer. And the key word here is options, which GM charges an arm and a leg for half the time anyway. So why wouldn't they install things like a backup camera if the customer was willing to pay for it? I'm all about keeping the Corvette a value priced world beater, but there are certainly better ways to do it. Of course, we all know this will all more than likely be taken care of with the debut of the C7. So I'm not surprised nor disappointed that the Corvette didn't make the list. It's a lame-duck flagship right now.
