Camaro Z/28 vs Challenger SRT-8 vs Mustang GT500
Re: Camaro Z/28 vs Challenger SRT-8 vs Mustang GT500
I want the worlds fastest pony car
I want a land missle, and if its in a F4 more power to em!... GIVE ME!!! GIVE ME!!!
But in all seriousness lt1 camaros were awesome, ls1 firebirds were awesome...
lt1 firebirds (what i own) were sleek, ls1 camaros were sleek, but less desireable then the more agressive ones mentioned above.
but I love the cockpit feel of the camaro/firebird... I love the feeling that I can kick the big 350 w/ my gas foot... and my tranny got the middle seat under my elbow... You just get to know your car when you're so close to everything.
and you let that thing rip... its still ***** ***
who knows about the challenger, it probably wont handle very welll like most of chyrslers stuff...
but if it has any of Damlyers influence, It might be a good combo... my buddies AMG SL55 is an awesome car w/ some ponies (but it's slow for 490 hp)
ford wont keep the GT500 for very long... (atleast under 40k)

I know a car like this wouldn't make that great selling of a new Camaro, but I still think it deserves a

They added nothing to performance, and for the overwhelming majority of the car buying population - yes, even most car enthusiasts - were cosmetically unacceptable. IOW, you had to give up/accept/sacrifice lots for that "cruise missle" look.....and in the end the actual execution of the look, is what people found silly looking.
A lose/lose/lose situation.

I don't know if it is necessarily a matter of it looking silly, as most people that I know don't consider my car silly looking. I think that perhaps it was just too extreme for some people to deal with, with the tight inside quarters and steeply raked windshield (two things I love about it.)

I guess the meticulous-minded (AKA "obsessed") would claim the lower seating position allowed for a lower roofline and lower drag. Lower seating meant worse visibility over the V8 in front of you too. Moving the V8 rearwards helped the sightpath, but more importantly the weight distribution, which greatly improves handling and also keeps the front nose height low - again improving Cd. Wide body = wider wheel spacing, and as Pontiac advertised for years "wider is better". Yadda-yadda-yadda says the optimist in that argument for the F4 design... NOT ME. I agree with your position, I'm just playing devil's advocate again.
I want to digress for one moment though, and say that I personally think the F4 cars were actually very good looking. I actually liked the agressive styling - especially the Trans Ams (with WS6 package in black...
).Problem for me is that a car like that is not a good option for daily life for 99% of the public, so it will not sell in droves. For purists and enthusiasts - it was a GREAT car, and a great value.
What I am asking for in the new F-car is that it be more user-friendly on a daily basis that the F4 - that's it in a nutshell.
And for heaven's sakes - would you people PLEASE get off the "fastest thing ever" bandwagon...
There is more to a ponycar...Actually selling more than a handful every year will do wonders to keep it around for a while. And I'd ten-fold rather buy a car that I can customize to suit my own desire than spend $$$ paying the OEM to do it for me. From the looks of 99% of the sigs on this board, I feel safe saying that you would too.
