Is the Camaro name more important than the car itself? (Product loyalty test)
Re: Is the Camaro name more important than the car itself? (Product loyalty test)
If its powerfull, has good loocks and t-tops, then I dont care if its named camaro or chevelle or anything else.
It would be weird though if it did look like a camaro and wasnt named camaro.

I wouldn't be the only one and it would hit them in what means the most to them, money. If it is exactly the car I want and doesn't have the name, why would I want it? It's not historically correct anymore and doesn't even have the history of the Camaro. It's something that can't be ignored and would be the biggest joke of the industry at the time unless F*rd recalls all it's cars again or something.
Re: Is the Camaro name more important than the car itself? (Product loyalty test)
i think what i'm gonna say is a true statement.
if a car is developed that was intended to be a Camaro and is called something else, GM would have to step it up. They can't try to get back in the game with a fresh name car. people are just gonna say "what? what's that? i never heard of that." the performance and styling would have to been really good to get anyones attention. i mean it doesn't take an expert to know this, but apparently it takes an expert to actually carry out the plans
if it ends up being called a Camaro i will be ontop of it making sure it fits my expectations, if its not, i wouldn't be too interested in the first place (until i hear it has 450 hp or something similar)
i just hope we don't keep looking for the 5th gen years after a RWD chevy coupe comes out. that'd suck

If it's not what I consider a Camaro.....but is called Camaro, then it's done...I'll reject it faster than a red headded stepchild.
If it were physically an absolutely perfect Camaro...and not called Camaro...that would upset me a great deal . But after calming down, I would probably take another look. It wouldn't have the same appeal for me however.
I see the first scenario as more probable though.

If it is not named "Camaro" then they can keep it. I don't care what excuse we are given, if it is not named Camaro then I won't be giving Chevrolet my money. Screw 'em.
I think at this point I am not counting on a Camaro comming back and I should just count on getting a used Vette for my next vehicle.

To me, a resounding YES!!! Without the "Camaro" name, it's just another sports coupe on the market imo. The name carries a lot of value and weight. The historical ties are why we love and respect camaro, firebird, mustang, corvette, and Ford GT. Without the name and historical ties, they are hallow shells.

At this point, with all of the crap going around here and in other enthusiast circles, I would not be upset at GM at all if they chose a different name for the car and let Camaro ride of into the sunset permamently.
I'd rather see its legacy cemented than to cause the same kind of controversy the GTO has created.
So, Guy, in answer to your question I could be excited about it w/o the name. This is not a small point, because 3 mos ago I was 100% in the opposite direction. I'd be dissappointed but still hyped about the car.

You should have made this a poll
Yes, I'd be enthusiastic about the car.
Yes, I'd consider buying one if it looked, smelled, and felt like a Camaro...even if it did not carry the name.

I would be excited and would probably look to GM first, over some of the others, mainly, because for some reason I have always felt more comfortable, or at home, in GM cars & trucks versus other makes.
I would like to see a heritage name used, but it's not critical. Chevelle is my favorite. Monte Carlo is going to be associated with the latest FWD platform.
From a design standpoint, I really want/need better rear seat access, otherwise I would buy a used Corvette. The current GTO is great in my book, with the exception of actually trying to get into/out of the rear seats ... perfect size once you get in.
No GM bashing from me, just dissappointing that I've had to keep holding on to my GM bucks and buy used cars instead, because nothing really appeals to me right now ... in my price range anyway. The only vehicle my wife likes from GM is a Tahoe, but that is a little impractical for us too ... I like my garage space.
I like the new Mustang, but I would like to see a GM competitor with a few more inches of legroom in the rear. The seats are a good size in the Mustang though. The GM competitor should also get better gas mileage than the Mustang, which to me is still not good enough. There's no reason a small V8 coupe can't avg 20 in town and 30 highway ... when your foot is not in it that is
Re: Is the Camaro name more important than the car itself? (Product loyalty test)
I suppose most of what i feel has already been said...but, as someone who's been around enough to know some of the behind closed doors stuff, IF it has to be called something else, I'll at least know why, so NO it wouldn't surprise me....I'm not so sure about Joe Public, (but they don't really matter as far as the name goes)....and only upset me to the point that something failed in the proccess.
Of course I'd still look at the car, depending on if it met MY criteria.
One pont we discussed in Bowling Green was that without the Camaro name, a lot of Camaro people would wind up shopping around, where-as with the name they would be more inclined to go straight to the car without shopping...(as long at it ws a legitimate Camaro).
It just still sticks in my craw that we even find ourselves in this predicament....but that's water under the bridge at this point.

If GM does not or cannot find a way to make an all new, thoroughly modern Camaro and call it Camaro, then forget any notion of selling that car to me. Go Camaro or go home! It's that simple and clear cut. The name CAMARO is just 6 letters yet it sounds powerful when you say it, speaks volumes to many in the gear-head world and evokes vivid images of America's motoring history, freedome, apple pie & ice cream etc etc.... Finally, as a working stiff, the Camaro nameplate has come to mean more to me than a nameplate like Ferrari! Personally speaking, I would rather be driving a bad-a$$ Camaro than a Ferrari.
