Camaro ad
Ok idea time.
If GM can give us clues with song lyrics, all we need to do is come up with a band that has songs with lyrics such as
"We canceled the Camaro last year
oh oh oh
There's a gag order on it now
oh oh oh
But its comming back in 2007."
and
"In 2002 the Camaro had 325 hose power,
but now that's not enough.
In 2007 the Camar will have 400 ponys,
and we think it'll be tough."
Common guys, I can play bass. Darth, can you sing? guion on the drums? IZ28 on the guitar? We could be famous!

It would make one interesting commercial though

Oh man, don't you think the CAW lawyers are drooling right now waiting for a slip of the tongue!
I personally think this is a great sign. This has my hopes up more than anything else I've seen as far as indicating that GM recognizes the Camaro for it's potential return.
It might be interesting to contact the magazine and inquire as to whom placed that ad. Just because it says Chevy, doesn't mean that someone else (aka a dealer, representative, ad agency, etc) couldn't have placed it under a blanket contract. It would really be nice to be sure that corporate GM knew and approved of this ad...

LOL. Thanks to the person who gave that link.
If that is not the clue/hint of the year then I don't know what is. No wonder why they never took away the "We'll be there" on the Camaros' page on Chevrolet.com, I was betting that meant something also.
That was a great idea to get that out without saying right out, this is the 1st time in years I can say GM came up with a good idea for an ad!!

You still OK with the ad?
J/K!
For the record, I think we are reading just a wee too much into this.
It's no secret Camaro,er...Chevy's RWD sporty car will be back no later than 2006, providing GM doesn't go bankrupt (fat chance), and GM simply doesn't want anyone to forget the name Camaro, or what it represents till then, thats all.
What IS pretty significant is that this (and other ads that involved a Camaro of late) treat the 2nd to 4th gens as if they never existed.
Now that I would read as a clue.

if this isn't even a tiniest hint that the camaro is coming back, this has to be one of the meanest and coldhearted ads ever....."YEAH,WE KILLED YOUR CAR,AND WE'RE STILL GOING TO USE IT TO PROMOTE OUR BRAND,SO SUCK IT EX-BRAND-LOYAL- NOW-MUSTANG OWNERS!!!"
if this IS a hint,i'll take my camaro SS with a 6.0L V8.f this IS a hint and there's someone with a brain at GM,i'll take my TRANS AM with a 6.0L V8,in black.i hate black cars, that's how bad i would want a new trans am.

I hope the later section is part of the reading too much into something...

If I were Chevy and doing a Camaro ad, I almost certainly would NOT use the 4th gen in it anyway, as it'd cause mass confusion, I'd think.
I could see the same ad with a 70 1/2 SS...
The thing is, I think the SS badge is not their by coincidence. I think this is to promote the SS sub-brand as much as, if not more than it is meant to be a Camaro teaser... Since I eliminated a 4th Gen SS from contention (at least in MY mind), and there was no 3rd Gen SS, that leaves either a 1st or early 2nd Gen... they have to pick one of them...
Just another angle to look at it from....

I was thinking of that too Guion. They chose a 1st Gen which hasn't been made for 32 years instead of any other. And an SS no less.
Thats funny IMO, since when RP did that survey of what says Camaro most and what the name means to them, an 87 IROC-Z28 won it over all the other Gens/cars.
Lets hope they don't go retro too, and that the Z28 gets its rightfull place again.

Well, I would think the reaction to the 05 Mustang would probably cinch the design decision to go retro for the 5th gen. Anyway, the journalists would love this matchup. Maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea from a marketing perspective. It would really intensify the rivalry if the Camaro went retro like the stang.
Ahem,
I think you guys are missing the forrest for the tree. The ad shows a 69 SS with the "Go li'l Camaro go" quote. Anyone remmember the SS concept that debuted earlier this year? Anyone remmember the threads in which we discussed that GM was supposed to have a Camaro concept ready this year and that they could name it SS or Z28 to bypass the "gag" order?
I firmly believe this add confirms our earlier suspicions about the SS.

It would mean both cars would go in the wrong direction instead of just 1.
I really don't think GM is up for an all out complete retro design. Lots of cues maybe, but not 05 M*stang-like.
