Caddilac Imaj

Imaj

Ok I saw this car in person at a Streetrod show a few weeks ago. I don't remember it when it came out. Was this a look at the CTS just as the Evok was to the XLR, like the Vizion was to SRX. BTW it was setting next to the Evok. This car was physically larger than the CTS so is it a look at the STS?

Whoa
WTF is that suppose to be? For some reason I like it.
Is this going to be an actual production vehicle or just a styling exercise?

I remember that. It was supposed to replace the STS according to MT when they did the review of it. Projected output was 425HP Supercharged Northstar V8 and boasted a host of interesting ideas, such as No side view mirrors but camera in their place.
Night vision enbedded in the front
Tray table ala Rolls Royce
Ultra View roof for a open air simulated feeling (It was fixed not removable)

I can't remember anything else except that Bulgari designed the guages and the tach. clock etc. (Inspired the design for the Escalades as we see it now) I think that concept came out around 99..could be way off but that is my guess...

Well the site conceptcarz has it listed as a 00 so you are close. And yes it did have cameras instead of rear view mirrors. A huge looking "fixed sunroof" and nightvision built into the front end. It actually looked really cool. Maybe this is the STS pre Lutz?

Yep, this is the concept version of the STS.

Bob Lutz has tweaked a few things with it since then, but word is that he didn't change nealy as much on the STS (which is going to be out on time) as he did on the upcomming Buick Regal/LaCrosse (which was actually delayed a year to go back to the drawing board).

BTW, word is that this will have a V12 available sometime after it's out.

Anyone see the STS picture in Road and Track? It looks much different than the CTS inspired STS. This new picture has many Sixteen design cues and I think it looks excellent!

I figured the V12 to be destined for the STS-V ... however Car & Driver disagrees and says there is no chance it happeneing.

I am inclined to not believe Car & Driver.

Hmm interesting you say this.

If the STS is not radically changed compared to the IMAJ concept then that paints a totally different picture from what I gathered. As I understood it the STS picture that surfaced around the internet as a Sedan closely resembling the CTS but with horizontal headlights was confirmed by insiders as the Lutz STS and it didn't look anything like the Imaj so I thought it was a dead duck. If you say that Lutz didnt tweak it that much perhaps Cadillac did good on it's concepts ideas:
Evok: XLR
IMAJ: STS
Vision: SRX

perhaps a concept unveiled next year will be a production bound model

If the STS doesn't get the V12 (like C&D states) I think GM will make the next Deville with it. Perhaps making the Deville a sort of production version of the Sixteen, only with the twelve cylinder instead. I would imagine however that the STS will get the XV12. No way GM would only put it in the V-series Escalade.

In my opinion the next DTS needs to stay front wheel drive. Caddy needs at least one FWD car for those that still think FWD is best

Instead they need to bring back the Fleetwood name as an even bigger RWD Caddy.

Strange as it may seem, I agree that Cadillac needs to keep one FWD car, rebodied & updated of course, for the old folks who want familiarity over the new (ie: Lincoln's Town Car, which seems likely to continue till the next decade).

Having the Fleetwood return as the large RWD car is an excellent idea!
