You only heard part of the story. They are pulling out of the LMP ( i think thats it) prototype class. They may enter a CTS of XLR in the GT class though or even GTS which is a better idea. Having an accual production car being seen would definately be better for marketing than the prototype class. I don't know maybe people that care about the prototype class, but lots of people cheer for the yellow C5-R's on their perfect season. One downfall of the Camaro is Chevrolet never really backed the racing teams that ran camaros. There are only maybe 2 that run trans am, and a few in other GT races. Chevrolet just puts vettes in everything, which is a mistake. I believe the Camaro (5th gen) should come back to Trans Am with a factory backing ( you can support like 3 Trans Am teams for the cost of one NASCAR team) and leave the vettes to ALMS.

As far as Corvettes being in Trans-Am, I think they are all private efforts. Chevrolet withdrew their factory support from Trans-Am racing (Buz McCall's Camaros) back in the 90s. I would like to see Camaros back in Trans-Am with factory backing. For that matter, I'd just like to see a GM factory effort back in Trans-Am.
In the perfect world, Caddy would still be in ALMS..
but they have a good point.. the tech they are developing in ALMS doesn't seem applicable any time soon to road... besides, they need to spend the money to make better road cars first..

Now I feel better. Of course it might have been right the first time; I know things are different in Canada.

I read in Wards Auto World that Cadillac has been given the green light to produce a V12 performance coupe based on the Cien. I hope they make it just like the Cien! It's very cool! I believe that is part of why they are pulling out of LMP - to be able to put money into new car development instead.

It sucks they decided to pull out now after they just came out with a completely new car for this year, and without a podium finish... ever.
They should have done what Chrysler did: start off with a GT or GTS campaign (Oreca Vipers) and then move up to the LMP class. (Oreca Chrysler LMP900) It would be nice to see a CTS or XLR running in ALMS though.
There has been some talk about the C5-R program ending too. I really hope thats not true.

Caddy just scored a podium (their first podium ever) finish last race, i believe it was 3rd. I can't imagine GM getting rid of the C5-R program, especially after their success ( 7 wins in 7 races, 2 Le Mans 1&2 finishes, ect). Although, I don't know why GM isn't advertising their success this year, has anyone seen an ad about their Le Mans victory this year? I saw a few last year but none this year.

I'm glad they finally got their podium finish. I really haven't been following ALMS as much this year (still mad they did away with the Texas race
). Bottom line for Cadillac is that they invested way too much and got little results. Look at Audi, they threw tons of money at it, devoted many engineers to the cause, and that is why they have won three times in a row. Imagine if the Panoz team had the budget that GM gave Cadillac! Panoz would have probably broken up Audi's domination.
EDIT: a couple of weeks ago, I signed a online petition to keep the C5-R program alive. They should have it at www.corvetteforum.com.
