The only talk of an aluminum frame as far as I can tell is coming from internet folk. Anyone have any quotes from Chevy people that an all-aluminum frame is being considered? Remember that you can't just substitute steel for aluminum, pay the difference, and go. This kind of engineering isn't just plug-and-play, especially when the Fed chimes in. Extensive crash testing, then re-engineering based on the results is necessary, not to mention considerations for a potentially lower weight capacity due to the lighter structure.....
Is new Audi A8 using complete aluminum frame? They had a nice demo at the autoshow - just the frame of the car, pretty neat looking.

A CF body for World Challenge is 150 lighter than stock.

As for aluminum or exotic frame materials from GM... here's a hint...try a patent search.

In a chance meeting.....of all places--my sister's house...I had the chance to meet someone working on the C6 Z06. We discussed what the Z06's weight and power goals were.

It looks like they will meet their weight goals and meet or exceed power goals.

Does that mean Dave Hill was sandbagging when he claimed they were still trying to meet the power level goal (presumed to be 500 HP)?

I suspect that means they are quabbling internally on how much to underrate the HP by

I thought the same thing. Sure the 3v 6.4L could have made 500HP with no problem, but they decided to go with a more powerful 7.0L "rated" at 500HP

No.

They were hovering around 475-480hp for awhile. They have since surpassed that.

I wonder how they just surpassed it? How do you go from falling some 20hp short, to blowing past it?

Does anyone know anything about the 3v heads showing up on the Z06's engine.

by adding 0.6L

I take it from Z284ever's comment that the 6.4L engine was never intended to get 3v heads either.
