Ah, they are probably off a bit, but it seems to me the published weight of the C6 keeps going up. Its now no lighter than a C5 coupe....

2004 C5 = 3,246 vs. 2005 C6 = 3,179
If the C6 Z06 drops the same amount as the last Z06 that puts the new Z06 at around 3051 lbs. The aluminum frame should also give it a bigger weight drop.

All this talk of carbon fiber panels has me wondering how much weight can it REALLY save over the fiberglass/ plastic/space age polymer body panels currently used. Its not as if the vette is a steel bodied car. Anyone?

No corvettes currently get an aluminum frame and none ever had.
There was some speculation the C6 would get it from the get go but I think it was too expensive. For now its still steel hydroformed.

I wish information was easier to find on it though.

All CF on the Vette would save 60-90lbs. The 2004 Z06 CE has a CF hood that saves 10.6lbs.

CF is tougher than Aluminum and that is why it is a better choice. Also it is dimensionally thinner than Fiberglass given the sam strength.
C6 weight figures may have gone down compared to what was originally reported because from concept through pre-production and finally saleable cars, constant tweaks are being made. Just read ACAR, the chase for team Corvette to lower weight on the C5 never ended.
The only talk of an aluminum frame as far as I can tell is coming from internet folk. Anyone have any quotes from Chevy people that an all-aluminum frame is being considered? Remember that you can't just substitute steel for aluminum, pay the difference, and go. This kind of engineering isn't just plug-and-play, especially when the Fed chimes in. Extensive crash testing, then re-engineering based on the results is necessary, not to mention considerations for a potentially lower weight capacity due to the lighter structure.....

Why the Rolling eyes? If PacerX says it is real then I believe him. I know him and Red know each other relativly well and he is on the short list of guys here that everyone takes seriously, just like ProudPony, GuionM, formula79, and R377 (who seems to be on the inside although I don't know how). I think these guys can Definately be trusted if you don't then that is fine but don't go arguing with someone if you know nothing about what they are talking about.

Now, I'll argue something IF there's something to argue and there is something here definitely worth arguing...
