C6 Corvette, not in enough colors?
Re: C6 Corvette, not in enough colors?
I curious, of those of you complaining about the C6 Corvette not having enough color choices, how many of you are actually planning on buying one? (Please note I said planning and not dreaming.)

I could purchase one right now if I chose to. Count me as Number One.
My "plans" are to buy one next year, but I may put it on hold depending on other factors, including the Z06.
So.... go ahead and roll those eyes in another direction, please.

Yeah, the license plate was a major FUBR....but not for us Hoosiers, we don't require them
I wonder what the average number of colors most cars are offered in? I wouldn't think the Corvette is lacking too much there.....

Re: C6 Corvette, not in enough colors?
I don't get it, who the hell wants three similar red colors to choose from? The limited availability one is nearly exactly the same as one that isn't limited. Chevy hasn't had very many color choices in the last few years. Let me remind you that the Corvettes from the early to mid 90s came in about 15 different colors. Medium Quasar blue, Admiral blue, Polo green, bright green, mystic teal, torch red, rally red, cayenne red, bright purple metallic, dark purple metallic, sebring silver, black, white, etc.
I think they should have more colors available, repainting your car is costly and stupid if you bought a new car. Your new car has a $2000 paintjob on it, you have to have money to burn to be sanding it off and repainting it a color you want.
You guys can't tell me you weren't a little disgusted when you were looking into getting your 2001 and 2002 Camaros ordered and saw the bland color selection
. Mystic teal in 2000 was just about the only cool color hanging on. The 2001 and 2002 colors were all too dark and too metallic excluding the rally red.
Edit: Oh, and concerning Ferraris, Lambos, and Vipers...
Ferrari almost always offers red, silver, black, yellow, and a shade of blue.
Lamborghini has at least a dozen colors, ranging from lime green to gold. I go to the Lamborghini dealership more than I go to the Chevy dealership so I've seen tons of colors. (lime green, orange, gold, white, yellow, teal, medium blue, dark purple, etc.) Gotta love the Lambos
.
Viper only has 3 colors right now, notice how much lower their sales probably are than they were in '96 and '97 when the blue and white striped GTS came out.
If I had the money to buy a Viper right now, I wouldn't, simply because I hate the colors offered.

When I bought my Z28 it had no front license plate holder. When I picked it up after the dealer had prepped it, they had already installed it.
If I were to buy a C6 and it didn't have it installed at the time of purchase, but then the dealer installed it afterwords, I'd refuse delivery.
Re: C6 Corvette, not in enough colors?
Nassau Blue was the light blue color only available on '99 and maybe '00 Corvettes, it honestly is the best color ever on the C5.
Still, say what you want, but I think the ultimate sports car color is purple. Purple looks so lame on ugly cars, but when you see a purple '98 Trans Am you'll cream your pants

Re: C6 Corvette, not in enough colors?
I loved Nassau blue as well......and the bright blue on the 1999 Fcar...however, the public at large did not.
Yes, exotics can paint you a car just about any color you want...because they're pretty much hand built in that the production numbers are so low. They don't have a paint shop like regular production cars and trucks do.
One of the problems with paint is that it deteriorates while it is circulated thru the vats. When a paint falls below 3%, there is usually a "warning' given...and if it doesn't pick up in terms of production, it's history. (That's what happened to the blue in 1999 on the Fcar......) Hugger Orange was right behind it, however, because we had a backlog of Hugger Orange SSs (the SS was volume constrained in the spring of '99...also 6 speed constraint) we were able to keep it thru the end of '99 production.
The Green on the '97 C5 was a disaster.......I remember seeing a report that the only Corvettes in dealer inventory for any length of time in 1997 were Fairway Green.
The problem with color is that it's subjective. But when you look at the overall color mix each year, you'll usually find that the top 4 or 5 colors are well over 80 percent of the volume.

Fairway Green was one of my favorite colors on the C5... I even ordered a 97 S10 ZR2 in that color (though I never took delivery... long story.
Anyway, Fairway Green continued on the C5 through 1998, though...
