I'm surprised more SUVs aren't being purchased as they qualify as "category 1 trucks" and you only need to see a 5-mpg improvement to get the full $4500 rebate. For instance, my mom's Jeep Grand Cherokee is rated at 14-mpg average. If she buys a car it needs to average 24-mpg or better. If she buys an SUV, she needs only to see 19-mpg or better. So she could trade it in on a new Chevy Traverse FWD.
