With all due respect to those with opposing opinions...the current CEO really is a part of the problem. Some in the know may recall how this individual has turned down much need product improvements that were deemed "too costly". Even though thorough benchmarking indicated where the product required immediate improvement. In one case an improvement was hastily reinstated well over a year later, due to further degradation of a competitive issue. An issue that had been glaringly obvious since the original improvement request was taken forward. The "cost" at the point of reinstatement had then escalated well beyond what it would have been initially. Mainly due to short lead times for the supplier chain. In addition the improvement was not world class as it had been initially intended. What resulted was a warmed-over example of decades old technology being rolled into the product. That is exactly the type of poor decision making that has plagued the company, and that has continued under the leadership of this individual. It appears to be indication of a personality that does not respond well to input from the very few product savvy subordinates still populating the upper ranks of GM. It is especially true in the case of issues that a "car guy" would know by instinct. And that, friends, is something that cannot be learned. You either have gasoline in your veins, or you do not. When a talent-rich team is losing season after season, you don't fire the team folks. You get a new head coach.

Further more...we went by what was reported to us by numerous sources. The Camaro WAS slated for Zeta, but...the Camaro MAY be slated for something else.

2. Rick Wagoner is taking over day to day operations. Bob Lutz has had to deal with so many assinine and stupid issues, that he hasn't been able to focus on the job he's suppose to be doing. Case in point: After the Corvette was done, before it reach production, someone got the idea & had the power to assign a cheaper quality material to the Vette's interior. Bob Lutz had to intervene to get things back on track. A similar situation happened with the Cobalt. There is no reason on the plant a Vice Chairman of GM has to run around putting out fires that shouldn't have been started anyway. With the CEO taking the role, people are going to think twice before changing things that take away from product quality.
Exactly, it's not so much about changing the product, as it is about changing the "Approach", that means better utilizing the "talent" of some of the "car guys" like Lutz.(More emphasis on "procedure" less on "subject matter"...)

Re: Bob Lutz gets demoted...

my gut feeling is that this is a back-door escape route for Uncle Bob. how much of a 'promotion' can it really be if by all indication Lutz is to have less overall responsiblity at the company? I figure he's looking to get out of the hot water by "focusing" his energies on product development. Sounds great. I give him 1-2 years tops by which time he either croaks or moves on after having wasted his time trying to do the impossible at GM.

hey, we all appreciate that he at least tried right? good bye Bob.

Remember now, there were two "sportsbikes". The one that got axed is most likely not the one we wanted in the first place.

You know what? I don't go to either one of your sites, but I think its pretty asinine to come on here and attack Branden. I've listened to his conversations on here, and he's right about as often as anyone else. For someone who runs a GM site to come on here and openly bash another person who runs a GM site is pretty, well, stupid. Not to mention tasteless.

I agree. You need to cool your head Josh...or go back to your site.
