Bangle gets a new job at BMW

I'm heartbroken. No, really From autonews.com:

Bangle moved to exec role

BMW says he will oversee design units

After a three-year drumbeat of criticism over the company's design direction, BMW AG last week relieved controversial chief stylist Chris Bangle of direct responsibility for BMW brand design and moved him into a senior executive role.
I'm guessing something had to be done before the 3-series got completely screwed-up.

I'd like to get put into a Senior Executive Position for screwing up as well! Where do I go to get this done?

Whew! Of the "Bangle cars", the new 6 series is the only one I really like. It has its oddities, but overall I think the exterior is pretty beautiful. The Z4 is odd, and the 7 is just wrong. Every time I see a previous generation 7 series, I still turn my head. The new 5 isn't too hot either, imo. Exterior wise, the current and previous 3s, the previous two 5s, and the previous 7 series were great looking cars, imo. Worst of all are the interiors in some of these newer cars. I don't know if Bangle has anything to do with those or not, but the dual binnacle look is just wrong (5/6/7 series).

I wonder what future BMWs will look like...

I thought that was how it ususally works? If you do you're job right you get now where, where as if you screw up you get promoted away from the development process to lessen your impact?

That's good news, IMO. A few years ago I was just starting to notice how good new BMWs were looking. The M3 & M5 looked downright muscular. They had become some of the best looking cars on the market, to me at least. Then they hired Bangle and I have yet to see a new BMW since that I liked. Maybe they will go back to not looking like bloated origami figures.

I would have moved him to the unemployment line the minute I first laid eyes on the 7!
