Autoweek's take on the C6 Z06 and Blue Devil

http://www.autoweek.com/cat_content...._code=08555349

Interesting points are the Z06 engine (presumable the LS7) will be 7.0 litres , not the assumed 6.4 litres.

Also, mentioning that Dave Hill confirmed that C6 Z06 will have 500 horsepower... did not know he had confirmed that.

The Blue Devil info seems to be similar to what we have heard... 625hp... $100,000... only difference is they are saying supercharged, rather than twin turbo which is what has been swirling around...

I've been basicly told point blank by a GM HVAC engineer that a prototype C6 he was working on and drove around at Milford was 500hp. I asked the engine size and he said 5.7 so that may be off but he was certain it was 500hp and in his English-accent "bloody fast!"
Interesting since his job was only to heat the car up and test how long it took to heat the cabin..

TO me the C6 Z06 will be quite a car even if they can only keep the weight to the current Z06's 3115 weight. It will still be very very fast.

A 7.0L 427 Blue Devil C6 would be just icing on the cake, at $100K no car could touch it unless you catch an Enzo Ferrari and even then its a drivers race!

The article is kinda funny in the sense that they can't figure why the "Blue Devil" name...

Dick Wagoner got his bachelor's degree at Duke, home of the Blue Devils... want a project to keep a head of steam? Name it after the Alma Mater of the Big Boss...

I'm somewhat surprised they're going to 7.0 litres. If GM isn't changing the bore centres (which I assume they won't due to tooling issues), a 7.0 litre will necessitate a very long stroke for that block, and that usually creates durability concerns. I doubt a cast-iron block is in the cards either since it adds weight and won't gain them much bore anyhow. Maybe they're raising the deck height?

Maybe they'll change the bore, sorta like how people now are resleeving the current LS1's.. or even better, maybe they'll just put the C5R block in relative mass production!

Taken from http://www.c5rmotorsports.com/engine.htm

Externally the production and racing blocks are identical, with the same dimensions and mounting bosses. The chief difference between the production and racing blocks is the cylinder bore diameter. The production LS1’s dry cast-iron cylinder liners are fully water-jacketed with coolant passages between adjacent cylinders to enhance cooling. The racing version has siamesed cylinders without water passages between adjacent bores. This modification allows engine builders to increase the bore diameter from the production 3.90-inch dimension up to a maximum of 4.160-inch diameter for racing.

The LS1’s wide, stiff crankcase accommodates a long-stroke crankshaft without clearance problems. The production cast nodular iron crank has a 3.60-inch stroke; the racing engines use 4.00-inch stroke cranks machined from steel billets.

Some know what they are talking about. . . I hang with my knowledge on this one. YMMV

427 $50,000 Z06 Corvette?

With a bigger engine displacement than regular Vettes, it will make a big difference in justifying the price difference.

It better have more than 427 cubes and 500 hp to justify costing half a million dollars. Maybe a small nuclear reactor...
