Seems like Ford really hasn't invested much in the taurus since around 96 so this doesn't surprise me.

when GM redid the rear wheelwells on the caprice in 93 they only changed the sedan not the wagon.

That and the fact that I'm not sure how the Taurus' back end "clashes horibly with the rest of the car" since the redesign in 1996 left the taurus with a) the same doors as the previous model b) the same roofline as the previous model c) the same glass as the previous model which means on the wagon the only difference between the redesigns is the hood, fascia and front fenders, which by this logic should clash horibly on taurus coupe.
