American RWD sedan?

Ok, we all know that Chrysler will have at least a couple. My question revolves around Ford and GM. I have heard that Gm is going to produce RWD sedans, but then the rumor came into question. Also, what about Ford? I know they have the Crown Vic, but compare to a 300C or some LS1 Impala, that car is a joke. Is Ford even looking into producing one with a more power engine? I am probably one of the few people that would rather have a fast 4dr car then a 2+2 coupe, but that is me .

thanks
Jeremy

Well, Ford will keep producing the 35 year old chassis for as long as its possible. Maybe with all this new found money they have, the Crown Vic can acutaly get an new chassis?

A little higher priced, but GM has had the Cadillac CTS out since 2003.

There's ZERO question about GM having additional RWD cars starting in about 24 months or so. Buick, Pontiac, and quite likely Chevrolet will all have full size RWD cars (full size being not much bigger than Grand Prix externally). Impala, Grand Prix, & LaCrosse will remain FWD till late in the decade, and is still far enough into the future to still be reversed. But, it seems pretty certain so far GM is going through with the midsize changeover.

Ford's new 500 is the Impala's true competitor, not the Crown Vic.

Ford's "Panther" chassis is pretty much a cash machine, and apparently is easy to configure to meet future safety standards, so don't expect Ford to kill it off soon (or in our lifetime it seems). In fact, Ford is making yet another luxury car on the chassis, as posted here a few weeks ago. Ford will restyle all 3 cars in about a year.

BTW: there is not an LS1 engine coming to Impala. Next year the restyled FWD Impala (and Monte Carlo) will have a 5.3 V8. Current V6 Impalas are already a little quicker than the Crown Vics, but I wouldn't expect the 5.3 to be much quicker than the Grand Prix GTP because of the engine management computer that will be on the engine to protect the tranny & eliminate torque steer.

As far as "Bad A** Sedans", Chrysler is going to have this locked up tightly unless you're going to spring for a CTSv. The 300C with an auto accelerates harder than a manual stock LT1 with the Magnum station wagon barely a click behind it, and Chrysler is bringing out the Charger with a 6.1 Hemi making about 440 lbs/ft of torque in a slightly lighter body that should be be a jaw dropper.

The LS1 will be toast within the next year or so, replaced by the LS2 6.0 engine.

This is a misconception. The ENFN (or Panther) was redesigned in MY03. The styling just didn't change much. There will be a slight refresh in MY06.

Midsize changerover? What cars are listed there? I was under the impression that the GP, Impala.... are all full size cars?

I was wonder bcuz I will be in the market for one of these in a few years and was wondering what possibly I could be looking at. I don't think I want to spend 50k on a Cadillac, I'm just looking for a quick grocery getter to put some looks on peoples faces.
