Alternative Fuel: .... oil?!?
This is pretty damn cool:

If this works... it is a great recycling idea, plus it cuts dependancy on foreign oil, and even our own limited untapped stores.
I'd think oil prices would plummet over time...

Hell, Ethanol could make us independent of oil supply almost overnight...we have the government subsidizing corn farmers NOT to grow corn when they could be making it for ethanol...cheap, clean, and runs in existing technology with little to no alterations.
I think the Oil lobby must be the ones holding back these other technologies. I think when the day comes that it looks like we'll run out they will finally trot these other technologies out and transition to them, but until then it doesn't make economic sense.
Imagine the chaos that would ensue if all of the sudden we didn't need foreign oil anymore. Oil is all the mideast has..w/o that they'd be in the stoneage. THey need us more than we need them IMO.

With all these government incentives for manufacturers to produce ultra low emission vehicles, why are they sticking to wasteful (in terms of money) electric/gasoline hybrids?
There are many cabs and government park vehicles that use natural gas / propane. Doesn't it burn VERY clean? I am certain that if manufacturers were committed to it, they would produce powerful vehicles that run very clean.
While there is some loss of power, it certainly does not compare to pathetic hybrids. Besides, maintenance costs on hybrids goes WAAAAAY up because dealerships/mechanics need to be trained to service those vehicles due to high charges being stored.
Has anyone heard anything on manufacturers probing natural gas? I would like to know more about their stand on it.

I bet that the biggest barrier is the lack of infrastructure to handle distribution and production. That's a lot of money to put something like that together nationwide. Gas right now is extremely convenient. To put it together now would require a large government investment. I can't see private business taking a large part now....it's pretty risky. When the oil begins to dry up there'll be loads of money to throw at creating a new infrastructure.
