Re: 6th gen rumors
As the resident "Reality Check" here on this site, let me point out a few items.
1. Any potential "6th Gen" is about 5 years away. It takes about 3 years to do a new car nowadays.
2. No one...and I mean no one has said that the Cadillac Alpha will be the size of the BMW 3 series. It has been said that it's targeting the BMW 3 series (in handling). However, no one at GM has said, hinted, winked, or pretended that the Cadillac Alpha will be in the neighborhood of 178" long by 71" wide by 56" tall....dimensions (the current 3 series) that would make the Cadillac Alpha smaller than a Chevrolet Cruze.... which it's not.
3. The thing about the internet...especially, car sites where someone desparately wants people to believe them... is the throwing around of the word "confirmed", which when you take a moment to think about it is really stupid.
Something was confirmed???
By who???
You can't tell? Then why even use the word "confirmed"??
It all flys back on the reliability of the writer and his own information and therefore his own reputation.
My own experience is that if someone on the inside tells you something, or hints at something, you consider the source and determine if it's true or not.
When the subject is a car that's at least 5 years from production, you can bet your newborn that there isn't even anything to confirm at that point.
A 6th gen Camaro isn't even on the drawing boards yet.

Re: 6th gen rumors
I agree. It is almost like the writer knows very little about cars and is just throwing out larger numbers because that is what you do with future vehicles. 7 speed automatic in V6 and 4cyl. cars is also not going to happen. GM has a 6 speed, and is working on an 8 speed. There is no reason what so ever to develop an automatic transmission with 7 gears.

(1) Because weve seen pictures of Alpha testing mules in the CTS bodies (last year). Does this mean no 6th gen? Come on spill the beans sounds like you know something.
(2) I reread the article and I didn't see any dimesions posted....it says similar size to a 3 series which sounds like it could be bigger or god forbid smaller than the current 3 series.
(3) I don't remember over the years, you giving us your sources of your info. Should we believe/take you seriously?

A) it will happen and
B) it will probably be on Alpha.
I have heard some things that suggest that the 6th Gen would continue on Zeta but I have no idea why that would be the case. I fully believe that the 6th Gen is being "worked on" in some way even if it isn't an official project within GM yet. Remember, Alpha will show up first as the Cadillac ATS.

Re: 6th gen rumors
I think this is all just speculation. It could be spot on. It might be completely off. But, I don't think the ATS is going to be as small as a 3 series. Hopefully, it is significantly lighter than GM's current overweight line up.
Re: 6th gen rumors
Are you sure those are ATS mules? I mean, all you really know is that there was a car riding around in a CTS body that seemed to big for it. Could it have been a different vehicle? No one here really knows. But, if you think about the article, why would the release of the Camaro be so far behind the release of the Caddy on the same platform? I know that the CAFE is having a big change in 2015, which might have something to do with it, but it seems odd that we are seeing cars thinking they are the ATS, no knowing when that will be released, and assuming it will take till MY2016 to get the next Camaro.

ATS will be available is three body styles. So we'll see a concept next year, the sedan in 13, the coupe in 14 and the convertible in 15. Then Camaro will roll out in 16.
The three body styles for ATS have been 'confirmed' by multiple sources and the fact that Cadillac will have first dibs at Alpha has also been 'confirmed' by multiple sources.
Re: 6th gen rumors
Now look what they are saying about the ATS.

All speculation. I thought that the next generation V8s were going to be smaller displacement.

Re: 6th gen rumors
Thats the problem with GM and other large manufacturers...they try to let things sit idle for too long and things become stagnant. As soon as you release a vehicle you should be confident enough and start on the next generation of that. If you don't keep things fresh then people won't be eager to buy your product and it'll sit and rot away on the lots. Look at the motorcycle industry for example...they were hit worse than cars i'd say. Suzuki flat out didn't bring GSXR sport bikes over in 2010. Triumph has continued to stay innovative and fresh as with the other european manufacturers while the giants in japan absolutely lost their a**es in the market. Triumph gained in an industry that fell over 18% in the UK alone. Talk about doing something right!
