505HP & 26mpg!!!! better than 4cyls.
505HP & 26mpg!!!! better than 4cyls.
The new LS7 V8 puts out 505HP and still gets 16/26 mpg
Here are some other ~500HP sports cars
Ford GT = 13/21 mpg 550HP V8
Ferrari F430 = 11/17 mpg 493HP V8
Dodge Viper = 12/20 mpg 500HP V10
Lamborghini Gallardo = 10/17 500HP V10
Acura NSX = 17/24 mpg 280HP V6
Z06 has twice the torque and better milage
The 505HP Z06 even beats out the 240HP 4 cyl. Honda S2000 in hwy mpg (26 =Z06, 25 = S2000)

That is just awesome....
I mean, I know fuel economy isn't exactly a priority to buyers of these cars, but damn, it's not even close!
But.... you know... that ancient pushrod technology is so old and outdated and all....

The LS7 is the best production ~500HP engine for on the planet right now as far as I'm concerned.
Re: 505HP & 26mpg!!!! better than 4cyls.
So why does the 6 speed GTO with 105 less HP and 1.0 liter less get 25 MPG highway? Better yet, why does the same car with an AT get a lousy 21??? Simply amazing...
Great for Z06, looks awful for GTO though...

Re: 505HP & 26mpg!!!! better than 4cyls.
Couldn't a lot of it have to do with the extra-high 6th gear that's been in Vettes for some time now? I don't think you're going to get anywhere near 16 mpg when you're making all 505 of those horsies run (i.e., at full throttle or even half)...
But still. Screw those guys anyway.

Best powertrains in the business=GM period.
Like I always said! Wether your green, or a power junky, GM is the place to be, they are showing the world how its done, and I love it!
I wonder how a paddle shifted version would do in mpg.? GTO.......yeah weights probably an issue there!

That's awesome.. but there is a little problem...
we know it... and GM knows it... do you think the rest of the world knows it??? NOT... so.. please.. someone at GM with power... grab the marketing team.. and tell them.. this is the message you wanna get across with the vette:
Not only does it kick ***... it is good in MPG compared to some of the vehicles it competes with.. and the Honda which supposedly are great in MPG... gets beat to the ground like a nerd getting beat by the football team.

I agree, this message needs to get out there. My sis-in-law drives a 4 cyl. (pos), and yet both my truck & Z/28, sip less fuel, while that thing sucks it up like an old BB. Getting reg. ppl to believe that fact.........Well that's a whole nother story.
They've all been conditioned, starting with a certain crackpot, from yrs. ago.

I don't think it's aero related, at least not as much I one would think. Weight and gearing has a lot to do with mileage as well. Plus, in the case of the GTO automatic, the way the torque converter is tuned makes it pretty thirsty, or so I'm told.

GM NEEDS to do a full advertising campaign on this. They NEED to change perception. It DESERVES to be trumpeted. And then tell them it's "proven technology, properly applied," rather than "technological acronyms for the sake of acronyms." And watch the sales go up across the board.
