Wouldn't that make the city numbers larger than the highway ratings?

they run two tests, going through the first few gears for like 15 minutes to test "City" traffic, and reduce those by 10%, and for Highway they just run it at 55 or whatever for some 15 minutes, and reduce those figures by 22%

I average 27-28 on my elantra... a whole 132 horsepower so, looks like i'll need an upgrade pretty soon here... if only my import had a trade in value of 65k...

But how many Elantras can you buy for the price of a Z06?? Let's say 5. That's 660 HP!!! You just can't use it all at once.

Ahh, makes sense now. It almost sounded like you meant they ran it at 55 with no AC, and then reduced the numbers by 10% for city and 22% for highway.

THe Mustang GT A5, gets 23 hwy
WRX STi = 24mpg
Mitsu Evo = 26mpg.

And these cars get just over 50% the HP the Z06 has

Wow, those are terrible, especially the Mustang. What is going on there? There is no excuse for a car like that to get such poor gas milage, even in an auto.

The 4-bangers are just as terrible when factoring in that they are four cylinders. I didn't figure hwy milage would be so bad on a turbo car.

Those are crappy numbers. Remember, though, that the GTO auto has a crappy highway rating too (21 mpg, I think). I believe the Mustang, like the GTO, uses the same rear axle ratio regardless of transmission. In the GTO, that means dropping from 6 gears and the deep overdrive in 6th, to only 4 gears in the auto, while keeping the same 3.46:1 rear end ratio. Of course, With the Mustang, the auto and the manual are both 5 speeds... Does the Mustang GT with an M5 do any better?

Regardless, the numbers for the Evo and STi are surprisingly bad, and the numbers for the Z06 kick ***. 505 hp and basically the same fuel economy ratings as a 275 hp LT1 six speed... Damn!

The reason the turbo cars get such bad mileage is the gearing. They can't have a huge overdrive 6th gear like the Z06 or Fbody. They don't develop enough torque to loaf around at 1000 to 1500rpms on the highway.
