And the "gimmick" that ya'll are talking about is already paying off for Ford. All one needs to do is read this thread to figure out how.

Oh, I am not contending that Ford is not selling Mustangs. It definetly is. This publicity stunt definetly got the Mustang even more attention than it already has. I was actually reading about this in the Philly Inquirer (I think) today, so it has gone farther than the mags. My whole point is, why not just give the GT the 330hp motor? What is the point of this. How many Mustangs are they actually going to sell from doing this?

I dunno about the whole Mustang not being targeted at the 23 year old crowd. I know the average age of a Mustang buyer is higher, but I know of people just getting out of school that have bought new cars in the Mustang v6 price range. Hell, even the GT price range. Ford would do well not to forget them completely, as loyalty to a brand often starts early.

I don't know how many they sell - and I doubt anybody will actually ever know. But they do know they get attention and coverage.

As for the power....GT will get 330 (or something similar) at some point I'm sure, but looking at it from Ford's perspective...why do it now? Wait till the car needs a bit of a sales boost, then add the power and perhaps some other changes. After all, there is no direct competition, and won't be for another 2 model years or so.

And make no mistake....I'm a HP junkie, and won't touch the car with its current power. But of a LOT of folks will.

The sales of the new car suggest that Ford isn't forgetting anybody. Just because some young ones don't like the "retro" look doesn't mean they all don't. Some didn't like the supposedly modern "catfish" look of the 98+ Camaro, or the "batmobile" look of the WS6. Others did. We are all different with different tastes, preferences, and biases. In the end, as far as the automaker is concerned, sales do the talking.

BTW, I didn't make up the part about Mustang being targeted to an older-than-23-year-old crowd. It is simply fact.

Giving the GT the 330hp engine now still woudn't hurt though. It would likely add sales to a car that already has the sales momentum of a freight train.

I don't believe I insinuated anywhere that I didn't believe you were correct about this. I simply meant that Ford probably gives some attention to every demographic that might consider the vehicle, regardless if it is key or not.

Ok, but if the car is selling good now, adding the HP later could help maintain sales.

And again...I'm not advocating less HP, just trying to see Ford's side of things.

And BTW....the extra 30 HP *appears* to come from simple bolt-on stuff. Kinda depressing.

Ok.
