2014 Chevy Silverado Teaser...
Re: 2014 Chevy Silverado Teaser...
Positive on the drivetrain news though...
If the 2014 Silverado is getting a version of the new Gen 5 V8; is there a remote chance we'll see a "swan song" LT1 option in the 2014 Camaro SS?
The pickups will combine GM’s six-speed automatic transmission with three new engines: a 4.3-liter V6, 5.3-liter V8 and 6.2-liter V8. The aluminum-block engines share the same architecture from the new generation of GM’s legendary small-block family that powers the new 2014 Chevrolet Corvette that debuts at the 2013 North American International Auto Show next month.
The engines will feature direct fuel injection and cylinder deactivation to reduce fuel consumption. GM expects the 5.3-liter V8 to be the top seller and the most fuel-efficient V8 in a full-size pickup.
GM does not expect any of the engines to top both the fuel economy and towing capacity of Ford’s touted EcoBoost V6. The 5.3-liter V8 should beat the EcoBoost’s fuel economy, while the 6.2-liter will have more towing capacity.
GM is expected to add a truck that uses new engine technology or an eight-speed transmission later.

Not impressed.
Seems more like an MCE than a total redesign.
Feels like a letdown.
The white Sierrra chop earlier in this thread would have been WAYYY better than what GM delivered.

Re: 2014 Chevy Silverado Teaser...
There is really only so much you can do with a rolling rectangle with a bed cutout. Grill, fenders, and sides. Trucks don't have a lot of canvas for major styling departures.
Could they have done more...yes, am I let down...not really, would I buy....yes.
Edit. Holy typing errors

^^
I totally agree. The new Rams look like MCE's, and even the Ford's have looked or kept some previous styling cues.
In terms of style, this is how I rank the trucks:
1. Sierra
2. Ford
3. Chevy
4. Dodge
5. Titan
6. Tundra

I love it. I'd like to buy one in a couple years.
One thing that hasn't been mentioned... do the crew cabs finally have a true 6' shortbed box, like the ext cab trucks? It appears they've finally extended the bed to a normal length. I might actually look at a crew cab if that's true.
After seeing this pic... I think the suicide ext. cabs have been axed and been replaced with normal rear doors, so it's not actually the crew cab??? This is the truck I would want

Re: 2014 Chevy Silverado Teaser...
So why go back to a 90 degree V-6? Don't they know that 90 degree V-6s are inherently unbalanced? It will probably have balance shafts, but I'm sure, that even with them, they will still be rougher than a 60 degree V-6.
They should have used the 3.6 as the basis for the new V-6 truck engine.
Any why no black vinyl applique between the front & rear side windows? Makes the vehicle look cheap & unfinished.
Both the Ford & Dodge use the applique.
Any word on a regular cab?

Re: 2014 Chevy Silverado Teaser...
The styling trend with pickups is to make the standard truck (1500) look bigger and more heavy duty like the HD trucks. I am not a truck person, but I guess this trend is really popular with the truck crowd. I like the looks of the new Sierra better.
The interior looks a lot better especially the dash and instrument cluster compared to the outgoing "base" interior. I am guessing that the LTZ models aren't getting a unique lux interior and dash layout? I don't know how this dash layout will hold up on a leathered up LTZ or better yet a GMC Denali, but I will wait and see it in person for final judgement. Also what about Tahoe and Suburban surely they are not getting this dash layout too?

I am really intrigued about this new 4.3L V6, I've been reading rumors that it will be rated around 320 hp and have class keading torque. What would really be cool is if this engine is the what GM is planning on using with a turbo to compete with the Ford's Eco-boost. A turbo with this new 4.3 should be good for 400+ hp. Anybody remember the GMC Syclone from the early 90s? Also I hope GM dumps the 5-cylinder and put this in the new Colorado too.

I still think the Chevy Avalanche is the best looking truck on the road. If I were in the market for a truck, I would sure pickup one of the last ones before they are gone.

Re: 2014 Chevy Silverado Teaser...
I love the new blue they are offering on the trucks, it should be on the Camaro too! It's more evolutionary but I'm ok with it. The one thing styling wise I dislike about it is the trim rings around the headlights, it looked like someone got ahold of the chrome trim rolls they can purchase at auto parts stores and went crazy with it.
Re: 2014 Chevy Silverado Teaser...
I like the look of the Blue chevy. The color looks great, and I prefer the grille compared to the honeycombs on the red Ltz.
Couple questions:
Do we know what the color choices will be? I'd like to see a green(dark)
Will the new v6 be an option for the LT's? Or just a base/work truck engine.
Thanks

Re: 2014 Chevy Silverado Teaser...
I would say the V6 will be wider available in the new truck. Its basically replacing the 4.8L V8 from the old line up. Its going to be interesting to see what power this 4.3 will have and what the mpg rating will be. I think its going to be hard to be 25 mpg.

I checked out GMCs site for the colors, no green. I also didnt see the new blue like on the chevy truck.
Anyone know if these trucks will be on display at the auto shows ?
