Any new information on this? Seems all the major auto shows came and went, and not a single hint of a RWD Chevy Sedan. Whats the deal with this thing and the supposed 'Ute'?

 

There is a Caprice, I'm not sure if there is a G8 variant. The Caprice is much longer. I saw a GM executive park his in a parking lot when I went to the auto show. It may be a fleet vehicle though

 

I'm sure we'll get it, but not until the Commodore is refreshed (I think 2014ish)

And it'll probably be called something lame like Lumina.

 

I am not sure. There was a lot of talk it would be on this years show circuit over the winter (and there is still NY)...however seems like the talk as died as of late.

For what it's worth...

 

A car like a RWD Chevy sedan wouldn't show up at LA, Detroit, or Chicago. Not a big enough impact or news.

The sedan as far as I can tell is still on. It's due in showrooms after the Malibu is out. My guess, 2013MY. I seriously doubt it will be a 2012 (we're in the 2012MY now!). And if there's a wait till 2014, then the whole thing is pointless since the next all new full reskin for Holden seems to be tentatively 2015.

The Ute is a done vehicle (it was completed as a Pontiac G8 ST), so even if the sedan doesn't make it (remember, there's the same size Espilon Impala coming in 2013), I'm finally comfortable enough to actually say I'm moving the Ute from questionable to a near certainty.

As for the sportwagon, while it also was done for Pontiac, and while I haven't heard anything new lately, I'd still give it a shot at coming here. There's nothing like it, and even the Magnum was very successful for a couple of years. Again, unlike the sedan, it's not competing with another simlar vehicle in Chevy showrooms.

 

GM had better put some "style" into the next Chevy sedan. The new Charger even has me considering jumping over to Dodge... and that's saying something!

 

The Commodore got a refresh this year, it wasn't much, but that is what held up the release of the Caprice PPV which was originally suppose to have been available last fall. All I've been able to see is a few styling tweaks and trim changes on the outside, and a slightly revised dash on the inside.

 

They're referring to the upcoming VF Commodore which should be a more thorough refresh than the mid-cycle, so-called VE series II that just happened.

 

Won't be very profitable to import from Australia. Our dollar is now about $1.10USD

 

I wish GM was capable of building a RWD car in the United States...

 

I think a RWD Chevy is in the works. NASCAR is heavily hinting at something coming from GM in 2013. My guess is that it is a performance-focused (at least as an option) RWD sedan.

 

My money is on Malibu.

 

Well the Caprice already exists, some of the cops even use them here. Who knows what will show up in the states though.

 

Now that it's $1.10 US for $1.00 AU, what will that do to pricing?
A lot of the cost of the car is not tied to Au dollars, but labor certainly is.
