Personally, I've always loved the Land Cruiser / LX in every way except its insanely high price tag.
The 2007 model was extremely dated, though - it was really starting to show its age in terms of looks and powertrain performance - though reliability was high as ever as was offroad capability.
This new one, I'm not sure on. I'd say it's fairly obvious even from the pictures that the interior materials, in most areas, outclass the Escalade's... but with the LX starting at 73k and the Escalade starting almost 20k less... that's somewhat excusable.
The outside of the LX looks too feminine to me - and looking at pics of the highlander next to it, they look way too closely related to allow the LX to be 3 times as expensive. But I've seen exteriors 'grow' on me over time so maybe eventually I'll like it.
The interior design, materials, and much of the feature content looks very closely related to the new LS.

Im not crazy about the look either, it is a bit feminine in the front and the back has a strange resemblance to the new Navigator...
I agree - those caught my eye too and they look very out of place. They look cheap. Maybe they feel really nice or look better in person but in that photo they look like something I'd expect to see in the FJ Cruiser - a quirky midpriced Toyota offroad SUV.... not their flagship luxo SUV.
I agree with that as well - it was the first thing I thought of when I saw it!
I know that Toyota's Lexus are damn fine automobiles that are usually worth ever penny, but I never can find myself to ever be emotionally excited about them in anyway. The new 'IS' in that metallic red is about as close as I get to finding them visually appealling.
Not much different than having a fast car.
Is the LX570 excessively laden with over the top toys and niceties? Is it more luxury than anybody should reasonably need in a truck? Does it appeal to many people just because it's exclusive? Yes.
Is that really any different than having way more power than you actually need and spending 10s of thousands on your car because it appeals to you to be faster than your friends and neighbors? Not really.
Though I know people here will disagree with me.
I think excess is excess - no matter if one is more exciting than the other - neither is more or less wrong than the other.

I don't care much for the center stack. It looks too busy, much like the new Tundra. It doesn't flow real well either, especially when compared to the new Escalade. Maybe its just the whole dash, console, and center stack are much more eye pleasing. I think the Escalade's just flows better than the LX.

Looks utilitarian to me, and what the heck, did they try to find a button, switch, latch, and lever for every conceivable item imaginable? Makes the interior look incredibly busy, and ugly. Reminiscent of the early 90's to me.

I like how the seats fold to the sides. The steering wheel is alright. Caddy needs to get the plastic off of the steering wheel. The rest of it is the kind of mediocore looks that is the reason I cant get excited about Toyota for the most part.
Still has the solid rear axle? Seems to, since it still has the fold up rear seats that don't seem to have much of a footwell for decent space. This is also what keeps the GMT900s from having steller rear seat leg/foot room, at least in the shorter standard models. The Suburban/Yukon XL/Escalade ESV have a wheelbase boost that helps.
$73k?!
Styling looks like the current Land Cruiser / LX470 and the just released '08 Highlander got it on and had a kid. Overall shape and layout looks to be based much on the current Land Cruiser, but the actual bodywork and styling details (especially the rear quarters) are very Highlanderish.
Interior looks "nice" in the Lexus vein. Don't know about it looking better than the Escalade, except in the more integrated look of the stereo/hvac controls on the dash (vs. the slightly more modular look of the Escalade's, which the new CTS has avoided and hopefully the Escalade will follow suit). Another thing I'm not nuts about in the Caddy is that the wood on the steering wheel goes around the whole circumference of the wheel, but only on the outer part of the wheel. This is different than the one in this new LX (and countless other cars, including other Caddys), where the wood covers the entire cross section of the rim, but only at the top and bottom. I like that better, because it is a consistent feel in my hand to have either all wood or all leather.
When will someone come out with a wood all the way around wheel, sort of a modern, thicker version of the old school steering wheels?

I'm still blown away by $73k, though. This would almost lead me to think that there will be a Sequoia based Lexus coming soon to be priced more like the Escalade, unless the 4Runner based GX is going to fill that slot (even though it is a bit smaller).
The new MB GL470, which has gotten rave reviews, starts basically even with the Caddy in pricing...
