I dont know. 575 sounds very possible if they bringin the 3v heads along with other technology, along with some sort of VVT technology that will enter the pushrod motors soon.
I cant wait for GM to jam that down every single OHC lover coughcaranddrivercough throats.
Maybe torque will be 575, and with 3v heads, its very possible. Ill take 500hp, 575tq!! They better dip thoes tires in glue!

OHV motors are still a lot cheaper to make then OHC. If GM made a 550hp motor to compare to the blown GT motor, It would be a ton cheaper, and still offer the great performance and the price of the car will be less. The GT motor is not your run of the mill pick up block. HR or PHR had a fantastic write up on it. I want to know how much that motor costs to produce.

I am on the same boat of doubting it will be 575 hp. To much of a leap from base (IMO) to be reasonable. Im geussing what was said earlier: 500 hp z06 for around 60k-65k, than maybe a blue devil with 575 hp+ or 650 hp TT for maybe 100k.

I believe this was one of the reasons for the end of the first muscle car era along with the increase in gas prices and come to think of it didn't safety legislation come in to play as well? I hope history isn't about to repeat itself.

well, as of right now, all we have is a 300hp Mustang GT. A mustang getting 500hp is more far fetched then a 400hp getting 575.

If a 575HP 7.0L is built, I don't think it will be the Blue Devil. THat wouldn't be a big enough step up from the 500HP Z06.

Plus the Blue Devil is rumored to be getting a Blown engine.

The 2002 ZL1 Camaros had a 600HP 427 and that was with 2v heads. The 427 might have 3v heads so it will have no problem making 575hp, its just a matter of what GM wants to rate it at. It is possible the engine will dyno 575hp at the crank but Chevy rates it at 500HP.

And can you tell me what a 2002 ZL1 Camaro costs?

You guys are missing the point. Yes we all know it is possible for GM to do it, but it will cost a lot of MONEY. Z06's currently appeal to people that can afford a 'Vette but want just a tad more power and don't care about a 'vert. A 575 HP 'Vette in the next two years will have a different market altogether. So why wouldn't they just make a 500HP (give or take) Z06 to stay in the same market, where the name is recognized and make a higher end 'Vette with the 575 HP? That seems only logical to me.

What did you expect the 500HP Z06 to cost? $60K? I don't think 75hp more would be too big of a deal as long as there is NO blue devil. If the Z06 is 575hp the BD would need to be 700HP. If there is going to be a super vette (TT and carbon fiber body) then the Z06 needs to be 500hp to give that some head room.

and the ZL1 was $83K+/- but they only made like 30-ish of those, not 6,000 a year like the C5 Z06.

I'm still a little skeptical about the 575hp, but I don't doubt it could happen. The C6 Z06 will be a few hunderd pounds lighter than the Ford GT and Viper, it won't need to out horsepower them.

When will we know for sure? NAIAS? sooner I hope.

The ZL1 was a hand made model, created outside of GM for the most part, using parts from an aftermarket company. They used aftermarket parts to do that, I think GM could design better. With 3v heads, and such a large displacement, its very possible. GM has pulled a lot of HP out of these mills, and they keep finding more. To make a blue devil, I would think it would be higher then 550.

If it has 575 hp, I may have to take a home equity line of credit on the house to buy it!

You keep forgetting the Cobra (Mustang) has an advertised 390 hp. 500 hp isn't that far away.

Also, regarding the ZL1's, as an aftermarket or dealer package, the cars didn't have to be recertified by EPA. That 600hp would have gotten a lot harder to make and keep emissions levels down...AND avoid the gas guzzler tax, etc. etc.

These #'s are sounding really nice for the Vette! I did see an 02 ZL1 at E-town and the sticker said $95 grand but the hood said 625 H.P. not 600. Let me tell you this thing reminded me of the old big blocks from back in the day. When standing next to it idling you could feel it in your chest, and when he hit the throttle a little it was like music. Music I never thought the LS1 could make, made me want to get a 6.0L block and a stroker short block kit. ZL1's are out of my reach but a motor isn't. These things(LS1's) can make great power. I don't doubt any #'s they come up with.

I don't think the new Z06 will need 575 to beat the the competition, and Gm is not likely to completely floor the competition just not thier style look at thier history, they usually just go one step ahead. the new C6 with 400hp run 12.4 and 4.1 0-60 think of another 100hp it's going to run high 10's, low 11's all day long. my best bet is going to be a 500 hp Z06 and a 650hp Blue Devil, and who cares on the CI as long as the numbers are there when they roll off the line. but just my opinion, I'm gonna ask some of my dads friends that still work at the plant see what they know.... I'll get back with you all later on this.
