2006+ Volkswagen Jetta
I have no prior knowledge of the reliability from J.D. power on Subaru Imprezas. I know what I read on online forums, CR and now JD Power.

Anyway, I'm not entirely sure what you hope to prove with this discussion. Are you trying to prove that VW's and Jettas are in fact reliable?
Look at what type of car it is.
Although I am not sure where you are getting this from. CR does not have a separate column for the STi nor JD Power from what I can find. CR however recommends it as a reliable vehicle. Is this true? Not sure as mine only has 17,000 miles on it.
That argument can be turned easily around. A 5'1 person is short. Fact. The relevant fact is not who is calling someone short but the height of said person. To further that with Jettas, just because an STi is not reliable, does not mean that a Jetta is suddenly reliable nor does it change the facts pertaining to the issue. I seem to be quoting people on logical fallacies often in this thread, but here is another one called the genetic fallacy.

Although according to CR and other sources specific to the STi, they are phenomenally reliable cars. Very expensive to own though (tires last about 10k miles if lucky and are $300 a piece, brakes cost $1,000 to get done, etc.).
Hence I stand by my original point:
"If it wasn't so pathetically unreliable, I might consider one as a DD."
A daily driver that is unreliable is a not a good daily driver. Especially when so many of the problems are electrical.
second edit: This is a fairly irrelevant and what should have been an innocuous argument. I am sorry if I offended anyone and such. I am not really sure what the thread is about anymore.

They might be built better now, but I wouldn't consider one until they climb up in the ratings - a lot - or when I find that most owners I know are telling me that they've been great. That hasn't happened yet, either.
If someone I know absolutely had to have a VW, I'd recommend leasing it and not keeping it out of warranty to minimize the risk.
