Not bad.

I know some people will say it is bland, and other will complain about the FWD... but you have to remember the market Buick is going for.... if you consider that, I think it is pretty decent.

It's handsome, even if it doesn't stand out a lot. V8 power... should be attractive to it's market.

Where are those engine sizes coming from? 4.6 in car application? Is this the new 3.8? If so, 195hp???

Edit: Nevermind, it's the Northstar. duh...

I think it looks pretty good. It's a nice mix of classy, conservative, and sporty. People forget that Buick isn't going after Rappers and NFL players. They want the 45-65 crowd. Giving up FWD entirely would be foolish since that is what most people still want.

DOHC V8 Sedan is just what Buick needs. The advanced 6 air bag system will be a great selling point.

I don't know, that design just doesnt' flow for me. It's kind of goofy looking. Nothing on it reminds me of a buick either. Maybe thats what they're going for.

Actually, I'd say very sad.

I'd say that the overall look is yet another rehash of borrowed styling elements. The headlamps and c-pillar treatment are borrowed from the 2002 Infiniti Q45. Worst of all, the rear end is a dead ringer for a flop known as the VW Phaeton. Why would GM attempt to copy an unsuccessful car? I guess the answer is that "great" minds think alike.

On the powertrain front, is expect the 195hp V6 "powered" Lucerne to be just as sluggish and crude sounding as the last Park Avenue I drove. This thing is 85 horsepower short of Toyota's new Avalon! The pricey V8 model gets a hand-me-down Northstar, but this thing will suck plenty of gas compared to the V6 powered Avalon - and the new Toyota still has 5 horsepower advantage.

Compared to Chrysler's spectacular 300, or even Toyota's more practical 2006 Avalon, this new Buick is very disappointing car on just about every level. That said, a combination dismal residual values and elderly first owners will probably make the Buick Lucerne a used-car steal.

Thumbs up Re: 2006 Buick Lucerne

The front does seem a bit too conservative, but looking at the pics of other angles, the styling appears right for this vehicle. It will certainly appeal to current Buick following and hopefully it's enough, combined with the improved quality and interior (and V8), to woo import buyers. Gotta dig the portlets...

That front end doesen't work at all for me... It looks like they tried to do something different make it younger or what not, and it really didn't work out, and yeah the whole thing is reminiscent of the G6...

The back isn't great either, I don't really like the trend the new buicks are taking.

Re: 2006 Buick Lucerne

I'll show those to my dad, an all Buick customer (except for an Olds 98 in 1970) since 1963 to see what he thinks. If the Lucerne (they better not use that dairy shelf name in Canada) splits the difference between the LeSabre and Park Avenue, Buick may hit a sweet spot.

Re: 2006 Buick Lucerne

Why does all of GM's cars have to look like a 4X4.. Damn car needs to be dropped a couple inches to look good. Looks like it is getting ready for some off-roading

I actually do not mind the front end

As for the height, remember the age group that Buick is targeting. These people do not want to have to drop into their car... heck, a lot of them probably CAN'T drop into a lower car.

Re: 2006 Buick Lucerne

Well I see yor point, but you do not have to slam a car to make it look good if it was designed to begin with right. .. Get the tires tucked in the wheel wells more, and keep the ground clearance at the same time when you design the car.. How hard is that to do???.. But that is a design issue and at this point, there is nothing that can be done to make this car look better other than dropping the suspension. Some of GM cars have this design that makes their cars look goofy.
