I just saw the commercials for the new North American Focus and it looks pretty nice. You can tell it borrows heavily from the Mondeo but that’s a good thing. There is one ad that pokes fun of an Escalade on 24’s with a “thug” Caucasian behind the wheel.. I didn’t get a great look at the guy but the Focus does look nice.

I also saw the new Focus for the US. I think it lost the "edge" on styling that made the car cool. The interior lost that zig-zag design of the dash, and the whole car looks as if a grinder ran down and took all the edges off the car. It now looks uber-boring and nothing all that attractive to buy.

As for the new Euro Focus....
#1- good job ripping off the Malibu's rims.
#2- The S40 shows right through the skin.
#3- No Blue Oval? What, is ford ashamed of this car? Kidding.

I dont like either of them. What, no retro design?

i thought the Euro Focus was off the Mazda 3.

btw, so what was the point for Ford to develope an "all new global" platform for the Focus if it only gets used in NA after only 3 years on the market and even then will be replaced here by the Euro version in a few years? just seems like a waste of money if they're going to trash it so quickly. also considering all the praise the platform got its kind of a puzzling move. it's not outdated, so is the Mazda 3 (or whatever it is) that much better??

European Focus, S40 and Mazda3 are al platform mates. US is not getting the new focus (yet) because the current version has only been around for a short time and still has a couple of years of money left to make. I anticipate a move around MY08.

edit:man, I can't type

The Mazda 3 is on the updated Ford Focus platform. Everyone (Mazda, Ford Europe) just gets the new Focus first.

S40 platform is engineered to accommodate AWD system. Can you do the same with current Mazda 3 or MY2005 Focus?

If not, I suspect Volvo has modified its platform EXTENSIVELY, so it could be a world different than Focus/Mazda3. Plus, it's also a bigger car.
