SPOTTED: 300C on the road
SPOTTED: 300C on the road
I could be wrong but I thought the 300C was yes to be debuted. I saw one on my way down to Charlotte. I was on I-85 and I wish I would have had a chance to take a few pics of it. It was white and it looked like a beast.
yup been on sale for a while. and I saw a 300C few nights ago with some aftermarket rims..lets just say this car is going to be Mopars version of a pimped out Escalade..the car looked awsome with huge aftermarket rims! if it catches on it will be a HIT!
I vacationed a couple of weeks ago in Phoenix and rented one of three available 300's on the Dollar rental car lot. Here's a quick summary.
The car actually looks nice. Every bus stop I drove past, and every parking lot I drove through peoples' attention was quickly turned in my direction. I'd sy it's a hit in the looks department. I don't get as many looks in the SS or Vette.
I had the touring version with the 250 HP motor and truthfully the car was terribly underpowered. Acceleration couldn't even get my head to bob let alone plant my *** into the seat. I'm not sure the added power of the Hemi will help this car feel fast.
Handling can be graded as poor at best. Body roll is excessive and forget about a quick left, right transition. I had to make a quick lane change on the freeway at 50 MPH and I thought I was going to lose the back end when I went to correct my steering input. The rear suspension is sprung very light as well. Any kind of dip in the road taken at 40+ and the back would bottom out. This is with two childeren in back with a combined weight of 260-270.
I also had a very hard time parking into normal spots pulling straight in. I would have to pull in at a poor angle, back out carefully straighten out and pull back in. Not sure if it was the long wheel base coupled with the width of the car but parking was a chore.
On the interior the gauge cluster was ridiculous. Plane silveer faces against a black backdrop that would turn a pale green at night with the lights on.
Materials were nice and feel was good overall. There was also plenty of room for everyone.
Cruise control didn't work however as well as an intermitant driver window control.
2 stars out of 5 IMO.
Looks nice, drives like ****.

Out of curiosity Northwest... Do you have any cars besides the 3 in your sig to refrence from? Just wondering if this is coming from someone who drives a normal car every day, or someone like myself, who forgets sometimes that not everything handles...
I havent seen any yet but my roommates have seen a white one and a silver one on the road.
With a 0-60 time of 5.8 sec. and and a quarter mile time of 14.2 sec. I'd say the Hemi does just fine for a car of this size.
Still the review of it did seem kind of bad, maybe you're just used to the crisp sharp handling the F-bodies and the Vette bring to the table

Wait, let me check.... oh yeah, this car is still A SEDAN!!
Its like we were talking about a Corvette here? Its a large, 2+ ton sedan, what the hell did you want? If you want the power, get the Hemi, but if you dont want all that power, the V6 will suit you just fine.
They did a review of the 300 on speed tv, and they loved it. They said the car has awesome handling for a large sedan. The 300 ranks high on the pimp-o-meter. Wont be long before Funk Flex starts "24ing" it up on his show.

I have seen a 300C with some sweet rims on it..I think its going to be the new pimp ride for people that want something other than a Escalade.. just a classic looking car.
Haven't driven a 300 yet...but I have to say that I really like what I see.
Northwest, I found your driving impressions on the 300 very interesting. However, I'm not sure if it's fair to compare the chassis dynamics and acceleration of your lower end 3.5 L"rental" to the cars I see in your sig.
I'm sure, as Wilson said, the base 2.7 300 is woefully underpowered...so why build it you may ask? I saw why first hand at the Chicago Show press day. The base 300 created lots of buzz among journalists and industry insiders. I must have heard.."can you believe this car is $23,000"...about a thousand times.
I think the Hemi powered 300C is very cool though. Maybe alittle too much exterior chrome for my tastes. I could do without the chrome wheels and mirrors. I saw a black one (pre-sold) in the showroom at a local Chrysler dealer...it looks tough in black.
There are more than just rumors of a Police Package 300 nearing the end of developent. This was the Enforcer concept that everyone was expecting at the New York show... but never materialized.
Less exterior chrome, less interior tortoise shell and wood, stiffer suspension, less weight, less cost...this would be the one that really would light my fire.
Or maybe I'll wait for the sportier Charger. Or the 300 SRT-8.
