Exclamation 2004 Grand Prix GTP

Well... the wife and I decided to replace her car (the 2001 Monte Carlo SS had 75,000 miles on it now)... so we went and got a 2004 Grand Prix GTP.

We leased it... and pulled out the cash from the Monte Carlo to help with house down payment that is coming up soon.

In the long run, our payment is nearly $100/mo cheaper, and we pulled about $2k in cash out of the Monte...

The car is Polo Green with Dark Pewter Interior... no Comp G package... she didn't really care about it, so we didnt spend the extra cash on it.

Actually, I felt pretty good I got her into the GTP over the GT2, since that was the original plan.... you get Onstar ($695 option on the GT2) standard... so if you knock that out of the difference between the GT2 and the GTP's price... the GTP is a real good upgrade... 60 more HP, 50 more lb-ft torque... superior traction control...17" wheels and tires...4-way power driver's lumbar... tighter suspension... all for only $1500 (in MSRP terms) more...

It moves pretty damn good too! I was pretty impressed...

Congrats on the new ride. Polo green/tan interior is one of my favorite color combos (the 3.4 Bird was green). The only colors of the new GP's that I see around here are silver, black, maroon, and a few white ones.

Nice move going to the GTP. The '04 GTs is a little slower than My 99GT (and probably the Monte you replaced) The extra 60HP should be fun

How come you didn't go with the 2004 Supercharged SS? You seem to like the Monte a lot since you bought 2, I would have thought you would buy a s/c SS over the GTP.

Congrats on the new ride. My Husband & I added a 2000 GTP Daytona Pace car to our paddock almost a year ago. We havent looked back. Its a great car & I love it. Even though we dont have the onstar I wouldnt trade it for the world.

Ya, it'd definately faster than the Monte SS... no doubt. I've read 0-60 times around 6.5 - 6.6 for the GTP... it'd dust the SS for sure. You can definately feel the extra power.

4 reasons we went GTP over Supercharged SS...

1) My wife wanted a 4-door car... she often has to carry people for work, and the 2-door was a bit of a pain for her.

2) The 20 extra horsepower vs the SuperCharged SS (or Impala SS)

3) The Grand Prix was a better value actually... especially in a lease.

4) Just to have something different from the Monte, even though we were very satisfied with it... plus we still have the 02 SS.

Does anyone know the 0-60 of a '97-'03 Grand Prix GT? Kinda curious what mine runs I hope its as fast as the GA GT I had...which was 7.7 0-60. It feels as fast at least!

Congrats Darth. You're on your 3rd W-car.

More than 2...and you're a collector.

Cool

Darth - great choice! I'm on my third GTP now and they are a blast. I think too they have a little more performance potential than the Impala SS, since the extra 20 hp comes from an enhanced supercharger which will respond better to mods than the one on the SS. Next up: you need a 9" K&N cone and a 3.4 s/c pulley! You can get another 40 hp for $100.

I love my GTP, with its roomy interior, sporty seats and the racy roofline!

Thumbs up

Drove a GTP rental some years back (rented from the dealer, before you ask ), and it was amazingly quick. I didn't like the idea of the wheels I depend on to steer breaking traction if I gave it gas on turns, but it still seemed like a really good car.
