200 hp Sentra
I think the new Sentra looks a LOT like the current Ion, which has been out since '03 (and hasn't exactly been heaped with lavish praise for its styling, though I think it looks decent enough).
The CivicSi has 197HP. The ScionTc has 161HP. So tell me who is getting 250HP+ out of a normally aspirated, four cylinder engine of around 2L?
Even the Cobalt SS has only has 205HP (and that’s out of a 2.2L, supercharged engine).
Let's remember folks, not everybody can afford (or wants to afford) a $30K+ pavement ripping Camaro of $55K+ Corvette.

Caliber SRT4 will be 300 hp (Neon SRT4 was 230 hp, on paper). Cobalt SS is 205 hp (on paper) for now, though that may change shortly...(it's a supercharged 2.0L by the way, fyi). WRX = 230 hp. MazdaSpeed 3 is at 260 hp (2.3L turbo, DI).
I think what z28x was getting at is that the SE-R starts at 177 hp, with the spec-V at 200 hp. Those are at the low end of the "pocket rocket" segment for a car just coming out. Rumors are out that the Cobalt (and HHR) will go to a turbocharged ecotec, in place of the current 2.0L s/c. That engine makes an easy 260 hp in the Solstice/Sky.
That said, I think there will still be a market for those in the 200 hp range, as fuel economy continues to be a concern. But not necessarily as a "top dog" type car in the pocket rocket wars.

I don't know what the final pricing on the SER will be (the MSRP on the Sentra model one peg down from the SER is around $18K) but I suspect that all the cars you mentioned will be at least $4-5K more than the SER...that's not a small piece of change if you are looking to save some money.
If the SER does come in at or above the $25K mark then you are right, the others will definetly have it beat on a HP/$ measurement.
