'14 Chevy SS Spy pics
Re: '14 Chevy SS Spy pics
I think it's a bit different scenario here though. 'SS' is still being used as a trim level on Camaro (and possibly other cars in the future). By the time Chevy's midsize car became the Malibu, Chevelle was gone and nothing else had 'Malibu' trim. Besides, at least 'Malibu' is a word (never been a fan of alphabet soup names).
I suspect, Camaro will be the one exception of continuing to have "SS" as a trim level. Has anyone heard of any other vehicles coming down the pipe with an "SS" version? I've heard "RS" and "LTZ"; but nothing with "SS" other than Camaro and the new sedan (or is it new version of an old sedan with a different wrapper and new name?
).
Re: '14 Chevy SS Spy pics

Too be honest the ZL1 completely slipped my mind. Yes it is the top Camaro; but its so freakin' expensive and stealers are marking them up so steeply that it may as well be built with unobtainium.

Unless I win the lottery, its completely off my radar, so I'm now leaning toward a 2013 1LE.
Re: '14 Chevy SS Spy pics
If not leave it as Commodore SS and be done with it. If they decide to bring over a V6 then it's a Commodore. No heritage name to worry about, it's new for US, it starts with a "C" and most importantly GM can save money on fender badges buying them in bulk for Holden....

I agree.
Re: '14 Chevy SS Spy pics
What just came to my mind..
SS
SUPER SPORT
If your going to call this car a Super Sport this car has to be just that. And what I mean is shock the hell out of cars 3x's its price range.
If you have it only a few clicks faster than other cars in its class then it is not worthy of being a sole designation.
GM your saying this car is so good it does not need a designation that if you own THE SS..it will rule everything on the street. Is that what your giving us??
Think about it..All the cars that had an SS badge on its fender but had a name NOW..after all that..its just an SS..does it beat the other cars? Will it beat a SHO and SRT8 Charger or 300, will it take on the BMW, Audi and the likes. This car better have the level of performance the CTS-V has..to be just called SS..When you say SS. That usually means the pinical of Chevy's lineup..this is the SS car. This car HAS TO be the pinical of performance when it comes out. Am i wrong? I dont think so.

Re: '14 Chevy SS Spy pics
However, Mr Devereux reiterated recent comments by GM officials who indicated the Chevy SS %u2013 the brand%u2019s first rear-drive 'civilian' sedan in 17 years - would be a premium-priced, low-volume model, by saying export numbers would not approach those of the G8.

I'm picturing a $40k + vehicle with plenty of dealer markups...
Re: '14 Chevy SS Spy pics
That's really they only option if its going to be built in Australia and exported to North America. If they wanted to mass produce it and offer a range of trim-lines, say from LS to SS for example, then they would've built them in Oshawa alongside the Camaro.
Re: '14 Chevy SS Spy pics
The first one is car makers care more about the brand than the indvidual cars. It is easier to market a brand as a whole, and then let the residuals trickle down to the car level.
Secondly, car makers want to be lazy, and use one name in every market. Instead of say Continental, which is rich in American Heritage, but means nothing in Europe, it is easier to call a car IS300, MKZ, BRZ, ABC, WTF and so forth. The problem with this scenerio, is that it sucks all the passion out of marketing. With Lincoln, I have trouble remembering what 3 letters go with each car. I know BMW well..but I do not know Mercedes classes, or Lexus.
Mention Impala, Camaro, Mostang to pretty much anyone, and I am willing to bet most will have a mental image of what some generation of that vehicle looks like. Ask someone what an MKZ looks like..and they may be thinking of a Lincoln, but it could be an SUV, big sedan, or whatever. Some with say an IS300. Most people will think Lexus..but I bet few would have a clear mental image of the specific Lexus.
No I personally hate SS for the Commodore because it comes across as Chevy taking the safe way out. The funny thing is, it will cause more controversy than if they just named it Lumina or Monte Carlo.
To start, it is confusing, and makes no sense. Today, tell someone you have a Chevy SS, and they will ask "which one?". Only time I ever remember something similar happen is the Ford GT (because they could not trademarkm GT500), and that is possibly the most unwhelming named super car ever.
Supposedly the whole idea of the SS "trim" name was that it meant that the car had a little Corvette infused in it. So what is a car by itself named SS? A little Corvette on it's own?
Re: '14 Chevy SS Spy pics
I know it's a little gripe, but it's also going to be confusing when I type "SS" into ebay and I get every single Super Sport Chevy since the 1960's.
Or when I type SS into a search engine like Google. It could cause confusion.
