Re: '13 bmw m6

For some reason, that car just doesn't excite me. I needs something, like a "wow" factor.

I think I am one of the few who doesn't get excited about BMW's.

Front shot looked decent...then I hit the side shot, and the first thought to mind was "wait, when did I click on a Solara?"

I like the styling, and these new torquey turbo V8s are much more exciting to me than the old M5's high strung motor. I'll be from a daily driving casual acceleration standpoint these new engines make it very clear how much power is on tap - those old engines just felt semi-ordinary until you revved them up, but their high RPM red line was kinda cool

Tweaked it for you.

I really like the way it looks over the previous m6. The updates to the 5 and 6 series look great I think, while im not impressed with the new 3 series. I dont really like that they switched to a twin turbo v8. It seems less "exotic". I can see how it would be a good thing as Threxx mentioned

But seriously. The only real ///M car today is the M3... and that's pushing it.

I'm sorry but the M5 went to mush after the E39 2000-2002 chassis. The newer one (e60) was made for the SMG transmission, and the manual transmission was developed as an after thought which made it woeful. It was slower than the SMG due to the fact that traction control could not be disabled. This is when ///M really removed itself from the rawer sport car market, and turned ///M into upscale high performance BMWs.

Then there's the maintenance, BMW ///M maintenance really sky rocketed over the years. Most people think BMW's are as reliable as a rock which is true for the most part in the non ///M cars. However the ///M cars have many plaguing issues. Now, I can't speak for all of them. I know two first hand well though.

The E46 M3 had all kinds of SMG II problems, VANOS problems, there's a warranty issue with the sub-frame cracking and has to be replaced, and every 10,000 miles you have to valves re-tuned. (Inspection II costs $2,000)

The E39 M5 at this point is just a maintenance *****. Suspension is notorious for falling apart, VANOS never worked in the first place, ect. This M5 is arguably the best one, but it was not perfect like many people think.

... Now to this M6, first the M6 is just a sales tool and really nothing else. Basically BMW was pulling a GM sort of move and maximizing the return on the V10 and the SMG tied to it. Not that I don't fault them for doing that, but that's not what makes an ///M an ///M. If you look at the M-series of the way past, the e30 M3 and the original M5. Those ///M's were out to make a point, to create a market for the fastest sport luxury cars you could buy, they were true road racers. This new M6, is nothing of the sort. It's just a 6-series with a more powerful engine, nicer wheels, and a complex suspension. I don't see anything about this car that makes me go, Yes! I want to blow a $100k+ on that car.

Maybe I'm just too picky... but these new ///M's are nothing like the old ones. The closest car I can think of with the old BMW ///M magic, is the new CTS-V, but even that is pushing it.

how is that any different to a ZL1 or GT500? i get that the price is higher but so is the "base" version.

I didn't say anything about ZL1 or GT500 but the difference is the ZL1 and GT500 (of old) were both built with racing in mind. They both did fairly well in the racing series that they entered.

Idk about the current ZL1 and GT500 and whether they'll go into any racing.

i know i did.

i just know what you expected it to be. all //M cars are just faster/nicer version of the base cars...to me this isn't any different. just like the mustang/camaro reference above...
