07' Camaro Engine Info. (LS4)
Re: 07' Camaro Engine Info. (LS4)
and now we hope that we actually get a Camaro.
As it has been said on other threads, QUIT BICKERING AND STAND UP AND DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.
Quit arguing and do something constructive, like sending GM an email if you haven't already. We need to make sure we have the car before we argue which engine it should have or how much it should weigh. Those are all fine and dandy to bicker over, but we need a car first...

Re: 07' Camaro Engine Info. (LS4)
crazy people.....
400hp froma mid-leve V8. Please...never gonna happen.
Be realistic for a just a minute. 400hp would drive the price up not to mention the insurance. If you have big bucks you'll be going for the top Camaro, be it SS or Z28. Leave us money challenged people an affodable but plenty powerful V8.
The hp of whtever mid-level v8 it gets will be damn close to the Mustang GT. And 5.3L is enough to get the job done...its all in how its tuned for a paticular application.
Power does not equal sales succes by itself. The poorly selling 4th gen is proof of that. So don't expect GM to insane with the hp levels.....we all know you'll void the warranty and mod it!
At anyrate the V8 Grand Prix looks pretty good. I am sure it will be faster then the S/C 3800--hope it sells well for GM. They are pretty good at putting high hp and FWD together.

Re: 07' Camaro Engine Info. (LS4)
Can someone please delete the "400hp mid level engine" post so this thread doesnt get out of control?
Perhaps its not power, but driving experiance that killed off the 4th gens. I never belived that BS comment. The V6 model still sold like crap compared to the V6 Mustang, both had the same hp. Key is that people dont like falling into a Camaro, they like getting into a Mustang.
Fix the seating of the Camaro, and keep HP above the Mustang and it will sell. Most of you dont like the idea, but making the seating more like a coupe, and not a Corvette will help out V6 sales greatly.

I never said the future Zeta would not get the 5.3L. I said that it would not get the LS4, which is the front-drive variant of an engine that is already six years old. There are now five variants of this engine (LM7, LM4, L59, LH6 and now LS4), and I'm sure a RWD car application would create yet another RPO code. I shouldn't have stated that GM won't allow others to touch Corvette's power; I should have said they won't allow others to exceed Corvette. The CTS-V and GTO match the Corvette's power, but do not exceed it. That's not to say no GM model will ever exceed 400 HP, but I don't think you'll see it before the Z06 comes out and raises the bar. In terms of performance, the Camaro/Chevelle doesn't have to be a take-on-all-comers world-beater. That's what the Corvette and Z06 are for. All it has to do is beat the Mustang, as there is nothing else from Europe or Japan in the same category. Not being argumentative, just clarifying my first post.

Re: 07' Camaro Engine Info. (LS4)
just as a quick point, the new LS7 is rumored to be making near 500 HP...rumored, because I don't know actuall figures...and seeing as a crate LS1 puts out 400+ to the crank, shows something....All the LS1 camaros/trans ams/corvettes/etc. were all underrated. The manufacturer's have gone into the "hp wars" again. Look at the new Cherokee from Jeep, you can get the thing with a Hemi now!!! So that in mind we can look at what might power the new camaro. Could the Z come with a 400hp LS2...probably. Will the SS get something better...probably about 425hp. And the base models...probably six shooters. But one thing is for sure. If and when the camaro returns it will be faster than the mustang, and it will be slower than the Vette, but not much. It will also be reasonabley price probably ranging from 20-35K. That's what I think. As to what it looks like, you're guess is as good as mine. Would it be nice to see the Camaro revive with a 300hp V-6 as it's base model, you bet, but it's not going to happen. I'm still waiting patiently, and saving my pennies for the down payment.

If a LS1 Camaro can get 28mpg then a DoD LS4 Camaro could probably get 30mpg while making 325HP, shoulds like a nice midrange Camaro setup to me

Re: 07' Camaro Engine Info. (LS4)
I forgot where i read this but the Z28's aren't coming out till a couple years after the camaro's are back. And the Z28's are gonna be the king of performance, not the SS. Not sure if thats true or not but it also said that the Z would have 400hp, but it would be pretty expensive. I'm sure we'll be getting a couple different engines to choose from, the LS2 being one of them.
Re: 07' Camaro Engine Info. (LS4)
Something tells me the MIDLEVEL engine will not have 400hp. I don't know...common sense maybe????
Remember, C5 base horsepower moved 5hp in 7 years. Mustang GT power moved nowhere for 5. I am confident a 320-340hp DoD LS4 will be the midlevel engine, with a 250-260hp 3.9 on the low end and a 425hp LS2 on the high end. Its amazing how 3 years after the end of the run, people still praise an LS1 as being faster than today's competition...
And yet here we are complaining a mid-level engine will have the same HP as our best 4th gen? Some people here truly are smoking something...
BTW, am I the only person that caught the specs list for the GXP? Cross drilled rotors?? 18s? And what is this, wider FRONT TIRES?????? Either very cool, or an odd band-aid for the lack of a limited slip. Either way, I can't wait to drive one
