07' Camaro Engine Info. (LS4)
Is this the 5.3L engine everyone has been talking about that will go in the next camaro?
Here it is in a Grand Prix.

290 HP? LAME.
Please tell me this isn't what is going in the next Camaro.
This seriously makes me appreciate my LS1 more.

...For a torque-limited FWD car, 290 is a lot.
When you turn it 90*, and place it infront of a more torque-friendly RWD 4spd, or future 6spd, you can turn up the dial. The 5.3 in the trucks make 305hp I belive.
But 290 right now for the GP is plenty fine...just wish it had a LSD in it.

With LS6 heads and Cam this thing should be able to put 375HP in RWD config. (405/5.7)*5.3
Silverados have a 5.3L for 2005 that puts out 310HP/335tq

It may be the same engine, but when it is transversly mounted it will make less HP. When you make it RWD it will open it up a little and also they would boost it to about 350-400 HP for the Camaro.

I think the LS4 is slated to be the mid-level V8, like the TBI 305's in Third gens.

At 290 hp/325ft/lbs, the LS4 is already going to be heavily torque managed for FWD applications.
What is it that you guys expect here?! 400 HP??!! Pu-leeze.
IF there is a Camaro, and IF it has a 5.3....the 5.3's power potential will be the least of my worries.

I DO expect 400hp, thank you very much, and 5.3 liters ain't enough to get the job done.

But first, we need an appropriate car.

And I expect the uplevel V8 to hit 450hp.
Look, by the time the car launches, that's going to be the price of entry. Ford might want to lay over and launch a turd for the Mustang GT, but I see no reason for GM to when the additional LS2 volume does nothing but help the business case.
The transmissions and rear ends to handle to output exist. The motor is finished already. The development effort needs to move into higher horsepower levels.
