'06 Srt-4.
It looks like I may have come pretty close to the mark in the previous Plymouth thread.
It looks like Dodge wants to have the next SRT-4 really break away from it's Neon roots.
Rumor has it that the next SRT-4 will not be based on a Neon. It will be based on the Lancer EVO....but with new, two door coupe body work by Dodge.
This new Dodge coupe will share all of EVO's mechanicals...AWD, turbo motor and all. It might actually make the curreny SRT-4 look meek in comparison!
Any ideas on what this new coupe should be called?

Wow! if that is true I am so down for getting one of those!
the only thing that keeps me from marching down to a mitsu dealer and getting an EVO right now is the fact that it is a 4 door sedan. I don't like four door sports cars. Give me a coupe anyday. If Dodge makes a coupe version of that car then that's the one for me
(Provided of course that it is styled nice!)

I think that's great. As a Subaru WRX owner I can tell you that these cars are really fun. while I prefer a coupe over the sedan, it's not as bad as people make it out to be. In fact, the sedan is much more practical. Insurance will be cheaper too. That's one thing I like about my WRX. I'm faster than a Mustang GT and I pay $250 less every six months. As long as Dodge doesn't give it a historic name like "Challenger" or something like that, it should be great.
Boy do all the pieces of the puzzle fit together now.
1) DCX wants a "pony car" competitor.
2) DCX is already working on coupes, off of this platform, for the Stratus/Sebring replacements.
3) Dodge wants to capitalize on the runaway success of the SRT-4.
4) The EVO hardware is already engineered and is a bolt in.
5) Dodge wants SRT-4 to move waaaay beyond Neon.

from what everyone says, the srt-4 is sensitive to mods and has a tough bottom end. i get the feeling mitsubishi won't be able to replace that. seriously now, someone needs to buy dodge back from the germans, the damn company is a mut. you got american/german/japanese rolled into one taco. i guess you could call it a hyrbid company, but i rather the sound of all american

Why do I have the feeling the price would also go up quite a bit.
One of the nice things about it right now is it's so cheap. In fact, I'll consider the current one for a daily driver when I pay my WS6 off. However, if it went up to near the price of the regular Evo, it would just not fit into what I'm looking for.

will this considerably up the price beyond the 20k mark? cause thats a pretty big selling point for that car. it would be ashame to see it get bloated and expensive and follow the path of the supra, rx7, 300zx, etc....
if they can keep it conservatively priced, than wow

I'm still foggy on the details but....
The Neon (which will probably have a different name when it's replaced), may still have an affordable version with a really hot motor. At first, I thought the EVO based coupe and Neon replacement would use different platforms...but now, I believe that they will share the Lancer. The new motor, that replaces the EVO's and SRT-4's...is supposed to be awesome, with far more potential than what it replaces. It really likes to be turbo'd....and it should easily outpower the SRT-4's 2.4 turbo.
A FWD version of this car may ultimately replace the Neon based SRT-4...and simply be called ("new name")R/T.
The EVO based coupe will most certainly cost more than that. This one will probably take on the SRT-4 name and be a re-engineered Dodge two door coupe version of the next EVO...but with alot of differences, like retuned chassis and different interior. Dodge's ACR team...the guys who have previously mentioned that they intend to unseat the Z/28 from an SCCA class with their road racing SRT-4....are helping develop this package.
I believe that this is the package that Dodge wants to go Mustang hunting with.
There are also rumors that this platform is having a very powerful V6 engineered for it. Don't know if it will be normally aspirated or not.
Things are going to get interesting.......
