'05 GTO press release
Re: '05 GTO press release
Thank you for getting it Bob !!!!!
Since we are on the subject of the Cobra also, the gas guzzler tax was included in the base MSRP. Again, this was due to the fact that it was a given, and not something that changed based on location.

It has to have performance to put it into 12's, have radical yet conservative styling, have 500 HP and yet be safe. And.... 18 year old high school kids working part time should be able to afford montly payments.
Another problem: every car division of GM has to go after absolutely everyone. Buick has to go after Acura, Lexus in luxury, and also have performance. Caddy - same thing. Chevy - performance. BUt also we want luxury options. Pontiac - Lexus, Acura, BMW, what not.
If GM were listening, they wouldn't produce anything or all their products would look the same and go after the same demographic. I can certainly respect the job of project managers who have to put a line somwehere and define what a product is and is not.

Pontiac had to comprimise somewhere in order to hold the price down to a reasonable level. That is why the GTO comes equipped the way it does. Simple as that.

I don't see how those options would push the price to $45K.
Lets say:
Navigation: $2000
Sunroof: $1000
18" Wheels $750
Chrome Option: $750
Heated Seats $500
Sport Suspesion $1000
Price of options=$6000(theoretically)
So that would be 38K for a loaded to the gills model, and the more I think about it, I don't think that they would need a sport suspension package. Infiniti, Mercedes, and BMW have made a very good business case in offering expensive options on their cars.

I hear ya, but there is obviously a reason those options at this time are not part of the deal. It wasn't because no one wanted them. It's obvious some do. The price even if it came in at 38K would be to high. People complain about 33K.
Pricing
2005 Monaro $60490 MSRP or as the called RRP (recommended retail price)
That includes the LS1 not LS2
auto or manual price is the same
18x8 Wheels which are standard
No power side mirrors those are optional
No spoiler - optional
Tach and center gauge pod is standard
Dual temp zone climate control
And everthing else the GTO now has.
That translates to $46212 in US dollars!
With the options you mentioned the Monaro is close to 68K Aussie dollars or $51000 in US Dollars!!
The fact that the 05 GTO is priced where it's at is pretty darn good! Yet it's still to expensive for some. A 26K GTO will never happen. What can happen once the next gen GTO debuts the Zeta platform and built here in the states, you may find more options will be available.

2. Alterations to a car after a manufacturer makes it most definately isn't warrantied by any manufacturer.

A 240 horsepower Impala SS at $29,995 is competing with a $25k V6 Camry or Accord with more horsepower, better handling and styling that is at least updated more often.
What do we want from GM? A great car at a great price. Class leading performance and quality. Is that too much to ask? Apparently, according to people like you, Big Al, and GM, it is. If it is too much to ask from GM, then I'll go ahead and take some burden off of them and go buy from the company that will build me a great car at a great price.
The stupidest thing? They artificially inflate thier prices. They sell some car at $29,995 then give you a few thousand off. Most consumers see the MSRP in mags, online, whatever, and just walk off to go buy a different car that's priced well. Then you get the bargain hunter customer who will go in there to see what kind of rebates and deal he can get, woohoo! GM cars now with rebate! Meanwhile everyone but the person drawn in by the K-Mart blue light special thinks the cars are overpriced. GM needs to revise their pricing model so their prices are competitive WITHOUT rebates. And make cars that aren't below competition in horsepower, handling, quality and styling. If that's us "asking too much" then hey, I'm asking too much. Poor ol' mistreated GM just can't keep up with me, the demanding consumer. I'll go buy a Legacy GT and Subaru can stress about it.

There is more criticism against GM than any other brand I have seen thus far. One example, GTO. Not many options, people wish they could get a stripper model for cheaper, or have navigation system for additional money and what not. They miss what the GTO is. It is a car with virtually no options. Same can be said for Acura TSX, TL and RL. Hardly any options, beyond ground effects and the choice of wheels. Those are loved and sought after cars.
Sometimes GM makes similar moves as other brands. And while other brands may be criticized somewhat, I think this board rips it to beyond reasonableness.
I do not have any SPECIFIC person in mind, I am just pointing what the general feeling here is.
As for your assumption that I am willing to settle for mediocrisy at GM? Base on what, on the post I made in this thread?

I wish they would do away with incentives. I wish they would lower their MSRP by $2,000 to $5,000 instead of offering this cashback.

Except the whole fuggin point is that on the Acura TSX, TL, and RL you get Xenons, Sunroof and everything else, standard, the only option on the TSX is manual or auto, and navigation or not!
What is a damn shame is that a GTO with a 35k sticker doesnt have hid's, not even asking or xenons, no sunroof, and guess what, not even a power door lock button, you have to use the remote!
If you want to compete with infiniti and bmw, how about suspesnion package, make xenons, sunroof, heated seats, all standard, and at least have an option of having navigation.

Error #2: GTO does have power locks. when you push or pull the lock slide on one door, it will lock or unlock the other side if it is needed to match. It takes away a button from cluttering up the door.
While I'll agree that I'd like to see a bit more offered on the car (heated seats, OnStar, sunroof, etc...), this is a limited production car, and offering all these things as options would be cost-prohibitive.
I'd expect that to change when the new GTO comes out for MY2007 and is built in North America.

If GTO had all those things, people would start complaining it's too cushy to be a performance car, and throw that at it. GTO's one of those cars some people need to have an issue with.
With 3 years of 2% inflation, the current GTO barely costs more than the Anniversary edition Camaro SS, yet people rag on the Goat's price, but drolled over Camaro SS' paint and tape job at a premium price. Go figure.

GTO is just fine as it is.

Re: '05 GTO press release
I wonder if Honda boards rip on Honda this much?
Or Toyots boards?
How about Nissan boards?
And yet, those brands never get it fully right, either. The Civic has been a dissapointment to the enthusiast crowd from day one, plus the Si is a joke. Toyota appeals to no one under 40, and had to create a whole new brand to compensate. And Nissan? Sentra is ancient, the trucks don't sell, and have you seen the dashboard on a Maxima??????? Ick...
Lets take it a little further, shall we? What does that beloved TSX go for? $26-28k? For a 200hp 4 cylinder? What a deal. Oh wait, a Highlander from Toyota is a great deal. $34k for a FOUR CYLINDER. A bargain.
People need to get a life. No car company is perfect. Meanwhile, I dream I didn't own a house so I could go buy that 400hp 6 speed GTO, sans hood scoops, and go annihilate EVERYTHING on the road that sells for less than it, or hell, most cars that cost twice as much!!!!!
0-60 in 4.6 seconds for $33,000. 400hp in a 3,800 luxury performance coupe that still gets 25 MPG. And people still bitch. Amazing...
Most people on here do not deserve a car as good as a GTO for the amount of bitching they do...

Re: '05 GTO press release
I can't wait till 2007 when the zeta platform GTO is released, which is already being designed by Holden. YOu will get your options and you will see a car that WILL turn heads. Trust me on this, just trust me.
Re: '05 GTO press release
I personally like the GTO alot more now because of the 05. It has all the things people including myself complained about, they listened and fixed it in less than a year. I think it could still use the recessed grills and better rims, (hopefully they'll be standard next year) but beyond that, I don't know how much better the car can be for what it is. If you don't like it, just wait for the Zeta car.
