*OFFICIAL* LS3 and 2008 Corvette specs!
I wouldn't count on the camless technology anytime in the near future. There was talk GM wanted the LS7 to have this technology a long time ago, but it was quickly realized that it just wasn't feasible.
I bet we don't see a dual cam in block engine anytime soon as well, if ever. GMs concept engine featuring this technology came out a long time ago, and nothing ever came of it. I would love to be wrong on this though. Hell, I would love to actually see the 3 valve heads come out as well. Arao engineering just developed a set of 4 valve aftermarket heads for the LS1, and even though they are expensive as hell, and their business practices have been questionable in the past, at least someone went ahead and did it. It would be nice to see GM do something with the 3v heads.

Corvette
base - 430hp (6.2L)
z06 - ls7 is currently at 505 and going away.
ss - 625hp (SC 6.2L)
supervette "retro design" - 700+ (not till the c7 comes out)
There has to be something for the z06(60-80k price range) and the high end Camaro will need a high HP motor. My guess is another blown version of the ls3 at around 500-550hp. Just a guess/my opinion.
BUT, there were people saying the ls3/ls9 will be the last of the lsX designation.

It's out there somewhere, just havne't heard anything new on this.
You don't think it would be interesting to see a 3v pushrod production engine?
Yeah, I have seen GM's patent on this before. Just because they have a patent on it, doesn't mean they are ever going to use it.

on that and say that they just didn't want to put it on their flagship performance car. That excuse came from Tom Wallace at some event in the last couple of months. I'm guessing it would be easier for them to use some vague technical reason to not use it, than to have to answer questions later about why they're not using an existing technology to help save the planet. Plus my poll on Corvetteforum went decidedly against having AFM, even if it did work, and even if it did save gas. They're a strange bunch over there.
EDIT: Here's the post....

At the 12-hours of Sebring, Tom Wallace stated there would be no DOD on '08 Corvettes because of resonance problems caused by the torque tube. The LS2 had the same problem.

I'm going to have to get me one of those.
With the larger displacement and better heads, I bet bolt-ons will really wake up the car even more.
That's awesome.
Is the 6.2L going to have Displacement on Demand?

My guess is that there would be far more complaints about the LS3 having AFM if it had it than complaints as it stands now without it.
The question of how the exhaust note sounds under 4 cylinder mode has never been clearly answered by anyone that I am aware of.

Check Magnapilot's clip in the AFM/DOD thread.
