I'd say wait for Corsa (or Borla, if you must) to come out with a catback for the LS3 and go with that. 
A 3" Corsa setup might cost $1000, or maybe even a bit more. But they have a lifetime transferrable warranty, which I guarantee is at least as good as whatever warranty you might get on the GM system. I also guarantee that Corsa's system will be quiet when cruising and idling, and will sound amazing under acceleration.

When's the last time you've heard of a failing OEM exhaust system anyway? Doesn't happen very often these days.
Well I look at it this way. If it's only 500-600 bucks, I'd probably do it.
It probably sounds quieter at cruise rpm and more badass at WOT.
It only adds 6hp, but really, on the dyno most other aftermarket exhaust setups aren't going to do much better, and at the sacrifice of a lot of extra noise that make long trips down the highway a head-pounding experience.
Unlike aftermarket exhaust - this exhaust isn't just money down the drain - it will probably allow the Vette to fetch a little more when you go to sell it, whereas most aftermarket mods don't add any value.

All those after market ones that say things like "adds 15HP" don't say what RPM that is at. Plus like you said this will have better resale than aftermarket parts.
Good point, I didn't even really think about how it could add more than 6hp under peak - though of course that doesn't mean that it does, either.
So, the new v8 engine for the base Vette lacks AFM. This is interesting for speculation purposes on the 5th gen. If the base v8 in the 5th gen truly does turn out to be the LS3, it seems likely that the v8 Camaros won't have AFM either, since it is absent in the Vette iteration. I can't imagine AFM would find itself on the top v8 model either, especially if it turns out to be blown.

I guess another question is - the all new Vette comes out for the 2010 model year, right? I guess it will continue to use the LS3? Seems awfully quick to turn around and start using another new motor after only 2 model years with the LS3?
But then again I have to assume it would lessen the impact of the C7 if it didn't raise the bar with a new motor, and everybody is saying the C7 will be a revolutionary design like the C5 and unlike the C6. It'd also be the first new gen of the Vette to come out without a new motor since... ever? Not 100% sure on that one. I know C4 on forward all have had new motors upon release.

The LS2 was very short lived as well . Think of it as continuous engineering improvements rather than a switch as extreme as when the LS1 replaced the LT1 . GM vast use of the LS engines and their modular designs allow the them the ability for frequent updates .

True but this also brings about the question - might the C7, for the 2010 model year be when we see the next gen of GM V8 engine design? I mean the LSx will have been out from MY 1997 to MY 2009... sounds like a long enough run to me.
I think you will see new technologies applied as the LS engine is further evolved ....such as the 3 valve head , camless valvetrain or 2 cam in block . The original gen 1 small block lasted how many years ?
....the LS3 is AFM capable . Given the Vettes lightweight , they do not need use AFM to make the economy #'s they wanted . AFM would not exactly be huge selling point in a full on sports car either , where it would be in a Camaro trying to appeal to the masses .
If the base v8 really turns out to be the 6.2 LS3, I don't think it will have AFM in the Camaro. It would be nice for the one of the "winky guys" to chime in on this though.
I wouldn't count on the camless technology anytime in the near future. There was talk GM wanted the LS7 to have this technology a long time ago, but it was quickly realized that it just wasn't feasible.
I bet we don't see a dual cam in block engine anytime soon as well, if ever. GMs concept engine featuring this technology came out a long time ago, and nothing ever came of it. I would love to be wrong on this though. Hell, I would love to actually see the 3 valve heads come out as well. Arao engineering just developed a set of 4 valve aftermarket heads for the LS1, and even though they are expensive as hell, and their business practices have been questionable in the past, at least someone went ahead and did it. It would be nice to see GM do something with the 3v heads.
That's a good point -- I haven't had a muffler rust out on anything newer than a 1993. Admittedly, I've only owned two cars newer than that. Then again, Chevrolet is introducing exhaust systems with moving parts, so only time will tell if they have limited lifetimes.
