I'd post it, but it's too long, there are 4 posts worth.

Here's the direct link to the GM press release -

I love the fact that they chose to drop this today. Note the date.

It's interesting that GM increased bore instead of increasing stroke to achieve the bigger displacement.

All good! I hope Camaro lobs with the LS3 as I'm sure it will be standard on the future HSVs.

Gotta love these GM smallblocks. They get bigger, better and lighter! As I said, all good!

Anyone notice the performance rear ratio for the 6 speed auto is 2.73! It is amazing that it can have that low of a ratio. No wonder C6s get such good gas mileage!

So can somebody explain this optional exhaust to me? Is it a completely separate option from all other packages, or is it included in the Z51 package, or both? I'm just wondering if I could still get the exhaust setup with the magnetic ride control package.

its in a press release sent out to hundreds of media outlets and displayed on probably dozens of messageboards just like this one... i think that aspect has probably been considered already.

Nice, 430HP and 436HP out of the new LS3 Should make a nice engine for the G8 GXP also.

I wonder if the rumors of 30mpg hwy will be true too.

I also like this As a result, the standard Corvette is true supercar, capable of 190 mph. The LS3 with the six-speed paddle-shift automatic is the fastest automatic-equipped Corvette ever, with 0-60 mph capability of 4.3 seconds.

Exhaust system – Optional on ’08 Coupe and Convertible models is a new, two-mode performance exhaust system. Similar in design and function to the system used on the Z06, the dual-mode exhaust uses vacuum-actuated outlet valves, which control engine noise during low-load operation, but open for maximum performance during high-load operation. It is not identical to the Z06 system; the Coupe/Convertible uses a 2.5-inch-diameter exhaust, while the Z06 uses a three-inch system.

With the new, dual-mode performance exhaust, power output for Coupe/Convertible rises from 430 horsepower (321 kW) and 424 lb.-ft. of torque (575 Nm) to 436 horses (325 kW) and 428 lb.-ft. (580 Nm). This system gives the Corvette a more aggressive exhaust sound character that will appeal to performance enthusiasts.

All true. But my impressions were, that particular contact info is intended only for the media, and not for every 14 year old with internet or phone access.

Like I said, I could be wrong though.

The biggest news about the LS3, as I understand it, are the heads. There is potential in the LS3 (L92) heads unlike any other SBC head before it. With the right work, I would expect to see some monster packages and crazy numbers coming out of this motor.

Yeah, I wonder if the potential exists for a hotter smallblock - based off of the LS3 (like the LS6 was on the LS1), coming from the factory. I'm talking about a normally aspirated engine.

Check out the torque numbers.

Also note the axle ratio.... 2.73 is the performance ratio. Not long ago, that ratio would be considered weak.

It would be intresting to figure out what an engine like this would be capable of in a "hypothetical" car that weighs about the same as a GTO.
