Question Rear coil over?

I've got the coilovers by GC and was wondering is anyone using the rear collars? I want to lower the car but the lowest it'll get w/ the rear collars isn't low at all basically the ride height of pro kits springs by eibach. I know the spring is shorter but will it be too low w/ out the collar? I've got the rear down for a fuel pump install and was just wondering before actuall doing it if anyone else has done this? If not I guess I'll just remove the spring isolator and run rubber hose on the top coil and just adjust them that way.

Thanks for any help.

The only company I know of that makes an actual coil-over for F-bodies is LG Motorsports. GC, GW, and others sell spring jacks, which are not technically a coil-over.

That being said, how much lower than the Pro-kit do you want? I have less than .5" of travel between the bump stops and rear axle with the Pro-kit, and would not want it any lower.

Several companies make coilover shocks for the 4th gens. Bilstein, Koni, & QA1 are just three off the top of my head.

I'm trying to get it back down to the sportline height basically. I just removed the isolators and wrapped garden hose on the 1st coil. Didn't get around to taking it off jack stands though. I'll do that tomorrow. I know w/ the isolators out I'll be able to adj the height more I was just wondering what other did in that situation.

Thanks.

How much of an improvment are rear coil overs supposed to make?
The front end of the car handles flawlessy, but the rear is driving me nuts.

Thanks Mike

differences in coilover kits

Coilover kits I know of are from LGM, Globalwest, and Ground Control. There is a huge range in prices between them. Could someone describe to me what they are? What do you get with each kit, how much adjustments do they allow? Anything specific to any of the kits? Weight? Materials used? Installation gremlins?

thanks

suspension

I do not know if this will help but here is my situation with a lowered car and 315/35/17's in the rear. I have usually no rubbing with just my own big *** in the car, but when I have my lovely lady in the car I occasionally get some rubbing in the rear. I have koni adj shocks all the way around and I have eibach lowering springs also on the car. The rear sits and looks great but if you hit a big dip the rubbing begins since there are no bumb stops. I now am in the process of doing a complete makeover for the suspension because I occasionally carry a third compadre in the back seat and I am planning on putting my battry in the trunk over my passenger rear axle therefore I will not be able to make it anywhere without scraping or constant rubbbing occuring. On Friday I contacted Koni and they told me my options. I informed the guy I was looking into a true coil over setup for my car(97 Camaro) from LG mototsports and he said their setup is not really a best combo for our cars. He suggested me staying with the ground control kit and using stiffer spring rates throught the car. So I have decided to just try the rear groung control kit with 250lb spring rates in the rear. The total cost was about 220$ to my door . As for the fronts a stiff spring rate of 550 to 600lb would be more than sufficient but I am not worried about the front of my car right now. Utalizing the collars along with a good stiff shok I believe are the way to go. Here is a web page http://www.jeffreycollier.com/main.html of a guy that has ground control with koni's. He loves it and is an avid auto-X racer. Well my brain is tired now so I am off to stuff my face

250 rear?! Man that's stiff. Most I've heard used in the back was 175. The least was 125. I run 660 front and 150 rear. Hope that works out for you. Did you roll your fenders to fit those 315's?

Question suspension

I am too the point I will try anything in the rear. The battery is going into the trunk, and I hate the way the dam car sounds when the rear comes down and rubbs. Besides the rubbing I wanted to go with a set of tires that would last for a while since I am not into burning them off and had good manurisms in the rain and dry weather. I put Michelin Pilot sport all the way around and if you have aver priced the dam things you would be able to buy another set of rims for the car and some Kuhmo tires to go with it. I have my fenders rolled and I still have issues. I figure I can always change the spring rate again but for now we will see how things go. I also have in the trunk my sub, amplifier and the good old spare. I would take the spare out but I know as soon as I do I will get a dam flat when I am in the middle of nowhere.

For the rear spring rate, you have to account that the spring is no longer in the stock location, so you camt do a 1:1 comparison of spring rates since the geometry is different. The coilover will need an increased rate to match the stock spring in the stock location.
